After puncturing my radiator on the manifold, I've completely drained the system of coolant.
I've since put a new radiator on and the system is now sealed. Can anyone advise how much coolant to put into the system as its currently only got water in it, and the icey weather is upon us!

3 litres should be fine wouldn't put in any less

Drain the water and 5 or 7 litres depending on radiator (big / smaller type).
This is for ready-mix 50-50.

Read that wrong should have said no less than 3 litres of coolant and fill the rest up with water they average around 6 litres

Using a 2l plastic bottle is an easy way to get the amounts and mix correct.

I removed the bottom hose from the radiator and drained the system.
but I'm thinking this isn't a complete drain, I'm aware its a 7 Litre system, so I've put 3.5 litres of water in and the header is nearly full. I didn't want to put coolant in first in case there were any leaks. I've managed to squeeze a litre of coolant in which sits at max in the header.
I've bleed the system at the bulkhead, but cannot find the other bleed, can anyone point me in the right direct?
Also I've given it a run down the A50, and everything is running fine, except its only reading 75-77 on the engine temp, when pre change is was averaging 90 on the dot.

Your problem is going to be with the cold weather coming, you risk the chance of the coolant freezing and popping and causing damage to the block. The antifreeze also protects the inside of the engine from corrosion, which is why it's essential to get the right amount in.
Easiest way is to mix a 50/50 mix in a watering can and then pour it in. Even if you only use half the quantity you have mixed, you know it's got the right amount of protection in the engine. Get an old. clean 5 litre container and store the left over in that for topping up or the next time you need it.
Personally, I'd drain it and start again.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that, is removing the bottom hose going to be enough,
the fact I only managed 3.5 litres, means that its only half drained?
I'm tempted to wack a 60/40 mix of coolant in?

You have air in the system, watch it.
There was a guide on here somewhere of how to replace and bleed the cooling circuit properly which is a specific procedure and takes a bit of effort to do.
60/40 is pointless, and make absolutely sure you get the right type of coolant or you'll wreck the engine over time.

Thats what I was scared of. Is that why its not registering the correct temperature on the dash?
I've tried search but cannot find the coolant changing guide. I've defo got the right coolant so not worried about that.

on the 1.6 16v are there two bleed points, if so I think I've found them.
heather matrix bleed
coolant sensor bleed
