Well the problem is in your starter motor for sure, replace it with a new one OR get it out,and replace the item on top of it,not sure of the name, but you will find it for sure.

Solenoid
or that's what they used to call them. Probably been changed to some fancy name by now so that they can bump up the price

I would check the engine temperature sensor..... these have a habit of flooding the engine when its hot if they are playing up. For the price its cheaper than a starter to start with Wink

If it turns over but doesnt start its not your starter motor.

Get the codes read as a failing crank sensor will make a car not start when hot

I would also have a punt at crank sensor but that should be stored as a fault code.

Well I'm sure it's the starter motor,or starter motor solenoid as Macca said,we will wait and see ;),as if it's a crank sensor,it will not start at all.,and about temp sensor,it's not for the 1.4,that only effects the GTi 180,time will tell,I mean when he reply back :D.

All he has to do is park on a slant, switch off hot engine, if it does not start, bump start the car, if it starts then its the starter motor, if it does not start something else.

A failing crank sensor will start when its cold but when heat soak sets in it fails.

Trust me it can happen and does happen.

I had it happen to me on a Fiat.

If it is the crank sensor it would have logged a fault code so rather than guessing get the codes read first.

Temp sensor is relevant in nearly all French FI engines....do your homework

Love DREWDEN's idea about parking on a slope. Try to start with the key when the engine is hot; if it doesn't start on the key but will bump start then probably not crank sensor.

Leegsi is also correct that crank sensors can fail when hot but be fine when cooled down. It is very, prevalent on motor bikes but also happens on plenty of cars.
