got a standard gti 180 with just a decat and the mpg is 20.1 mpg on average now I know that there not going to do much more but surely it should be at least near 30 ??? I used to have a heavy foot in it but since having the car for a while I've calmed down so to speak . just wondering why no matter how smooth or slow I drive I cant seem to get the number up , any help would be grateful cheers.

Start off by giving it a good service. Maybe run something like Redex through the fuel system to clean it.

You could also check the live data to make sure the emissions are at the correct level.

Depends massively on the sort of us it gets too. Lots of short journeys round town will increase fuel consumption compared to long runs on the motorway or clear A roads.

if you're doing a lot of 2-3 mile trips from a cold engine or standing in traffic then no,that wouldbe about right. i manage to scrape 24-25 in my 136 in a mix of light traffic or short to medium trips. its just been fully serviced and most the fuel/ignition system is new in last 12 months

I average 35/36 these days in my 180 Smile haha. Give it a good service for a start and go from there.

When was it serviced last.
After that the only thing you can do it get it pluged it and look at live data readings for engine temp sensor reading, map readings , lambda sensor readings etc etc to check the readings are correct, they could make a massive difference to performance and mpg.

that maybe a bit hard on a 180 Wink
as said above get a full service done and take it from there, my 180 is used as a weekend toy and as such it does get used very hard but still getting 32.5 on the mfd.

Light exhaust blow ahead of a lambda sensor will throw the ecu fueling out?
Slow to warm up meaning thermostat defective?
Binding brakes?

real good service and make sure she is warm before you leave. something that is missed a lot is tire pressures, they can make a huge difference

Actually tyre pressure make very little difference to economy. Maybe if you are chasing that last 0.5 - 1.0 mpg but not much more.
