Hi there

Just wondering if you can advise on a problem with my pug please. I have a 53 206 and yesterday I was driving in slow moving traffic when the car suddenly cut out, steering felt heavy and the two red lights came on (as if I had stalled the car....which is what I assumed I had done!). So I turned engine off and back on and all seemed well. Later that evening I approached a mini round about and I turned left the steering suddenly felt heavy like the car was going to cut out again....my natural reaction was to change gear and the car reacted and all was well again. I drove for a minute maximum and parked up. After an hour or so I got back into the car and all was well but after a minute or so the ABS warning light came on...I was a couple of minutes from home so parked up and there the car has remained until I can get it to a garage. What could be wrong? I'd like a little headstart before I approach a garage....should I got to a engine diagnostics place....a general ATS type garage.... any advice would be very welcome thanks

Scan for codes using PP2000 in the ECU and ABS unit, and take it from there

check your battery, i had same problem not long back, was driving home noticed engine management and abs lights were on, pulled over an car died, turned out to be a loose connection on battery and it was discharging instead of chraging from alternator, 1st things 1st check your earth strap from negative to gearbox and also multi meter test your battery should read 12.56v give or take and with engine running your looking for 14.4v anything lower than that and your battery cells are dieing ...

Hi Guys, thanks for your answers. I took my car to a garage today to have the warning light diagnosed and on starting the car the light had disappeared....garage couldn't get their diagnostic machine to work so I left it and on drive home the ABS warning light reappeared. Left the car all day and drove it anothershort distance thus evening and ABSwarning light has gone off again. I did have a new battery a few weeks ago. Car appears to be fine and so do brakes....but I have only been on 10 minute journeys since the other day. Shouls I wait for the light to reappear and take it to an auto electrician? Many thanks for advice

Hi there - My ABS warning lights comes on intermittently. I might drive for a couple of days and it will remain off and then suddenly come on again - and I have noticed that it does not happen when breaking but when I go over a bumpy peice of road or a road hump etc. The next time I start my car the light is off again - until another bumpy road etc. I did have it read at a garage but they were unsure what was wrong and they cleared the code and told me to return if it comes on again - they also tested the breaks by driving around teh car park and didn't think there was a problem there. I am planning to take the car tomorrow to be read again but wanted a heads up as to what it might be incase they can't diagnose the fault code again. Many thanks

The fault code stored should narrow down the problem cause & where the mechanic needs to start looking.

Without you telling us what fault codes where found there it's anybody's guess what could actually be wrong with it.

Faulty sensor, wiring fault, dirty / loose connector plug, damaged ABS toothed ring etc etc etc.

Read & understand the fault codes, that will give you a big clue where you need to start looking then use mk1 Eyeball & inspect / test the components.
