I have a 1.4 petrol. I use the motorway everyday for about 30 mins and go around 65-70mph . The cars temp stays more or less at 80 , maybe a smidge over. Is that normal for these cars in this cold weather as only had it for 3 weeks (also driving with the heater on if that matters ?)

Cheers for any advice

I can confirm this. I thought it was weird at first too but the 1.4 runs at 82c at normal running temp. On the motorway at those speeds you will see it run between 80 and 90 very easily but normally never above 90.

Yours is running fine Smile

Usually because of the motorway speeds alot more airflow is getting into the bonnet so you would see lower temps than running around in town for 30 minutes.
I have Peugeot Planet/DiagBox.

100% normal for these. It took me ages to get used to this temp reading.

My daughters 1.4LX ran at just over 80°. In town or left to idle for a long time it would slowly creep to 90° at which point the fan would would kick in and drop it back to 80°. That was after a new thermostat was fitted because prior to that it would run at 70° or lower. Also changing the thermostat improved mpg from about 28 to 32mpg.
I consider what Docbooze describes as normal.
IIRC the new thermostat was marked at 82°.
