Bunch of problems after winter holiday!

I just returned from my winter holiday which lasted a little over three weeks. During this time, the car was parked outside the house. There was no snow or any extreme meteorological conditions that might have affected it in any way. I should mention that the car had no problems when I left it.

Problem nr 1:
The heating fan will only turn on when I turn it to level 4 (max). On any other smaller level, it won't start.

Problem nr 2:
The LED light behind the temperature switch (the one from blue to red) will turn on and off randomly.

Problem nr 3:
The cigarette lighter doesn't work anymore. I tried to use the air compressor as well as the phone charger to see if it works, but it's gone.

Problem nr 4 (and the biggest one):
When I tried to move the car, the rear wheels were stuck! I mean.. dead stuck! Obviously I checked the hand brake and so on, looked under the car, but to no use. When I tried to go forward, nothing happened. However, I tried to reverse it and when I did, the back of the car just went up like 10 cm and instantly went back down, after which, the car ran as normal (from this point of view).

Now, I have red somewhere that the rear wheels on these Peugeots are fitted on a (pardon my lack of technical terms) sort of axel that needs to be constantly greased. Is this what caused the rear wheels to get stuck?

Also, for the electrical problems, what would you think is the problem? Could it be some fuse or faulty connections, or do I just have to replace these parts somehow?

First of all give your battery a good chargeing, diesels especially, need a good battery to function all your electrics properly.

Is your glove box lighting working as that works of the same fuse (20amp) as the cigarette lighter, fuse box under the steering wheel.

Lastly nothing to do with the axle, when cars have stood for a while, the rear brake shoes in the drums can stick, reversing sorts this out, as you found out.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I will check the glove box light today. As for the battery, will it charge on its own when driving, or do I need to take it somewhere for charging, because I don't have the tools to do it at home.

Good to know that the rear wheels-issue is not an issue after all. Very Happy

Should charge up ok when driving, thats what alternators do.

You find though as cold weather draws in, it sorts out if your battery is in peak condition or not.

Give it a good drive if the electrics are still playing up, the next step would be to check the earth strap from the battery to the gearbox, clean the connections.

Hey mate! About the light in the glove-box, it doesn't work. So tomorrow I will check the fuse box to see what's up there. Thanks for the advice!

About the blower fan, it still doesn't work, even after doing quite a bit of driving. However, I googled this problem and found out that many people have it. It turns out (according to the interwebz) that the problem is a burned resistor. I'm looking to change it tomorrow. Also, my question is: do I have to disconnect the battery when changing the resistor?

common sense would say when replacing electrical components don't have a live circuit running

rheostat as you've said, inbehind the glovebox towards the centre

Problem nr 2:
The LED light behind the temperature switch (the one from blue to red) will turn on and off randomly.

dash bulb? of if mux dodgy led?

Sounds like the hand brake was just stuck, though be wary as peugeots like to rip the liners off the shoes (if your repping a drum axle) I've had this happen on both of my 206s. if your leaving the car for a period of time leave the handbrake off

fuse I would try and then rheostat for the blower

Leaving a car for a long time and it is handbrake off and clutch pedal wedged down! I have had great fun releasing clutches on cars that have been stood - I won't tell an open forum my favourite trick!
