i am looking for some advice on puting the ecu out of a 180 into a standard gti any advice welcome

Not trying to bash your idea but what are you trying to accomplish with this? 138 and 180 are two quite different engines with different mechanical characteristics.

No point, wont work, completely different mapping, and the 180 has VVT unlike the 138. And a lot of other things.
