Hows it going guys, have been working on my Peugeot 206 GTI 180, with the EW10J4s motor and having troubles finding the crankshaft locking pin location. ive read and seen alot of pictures/writeups, but still can t find it, can somebody please link a picture showing it (NOT ANIMATED) of the actual hole so i can match it up to my car. Thankyou so much, Aaron.

That looks like it's for the 138 engine. No VVT pulley shown. Also has the original 4 bolt crank pulley...

You'll struggle to find a picture showing it, you can barely get your hand in there lol!

The only way i can explain this to you is like this. First off, if you're using Autodata, the information (Camshaft locking position most importantly!) is wrong!! You need to look up the C4 VTS and use that data as its correct. You will never get it locked off at the crank following the data they have for the GTi180, it's completely wrong, not just a little bit!

So, get someone on the bottom pulley, when the camshaft locking holes are getting close (C4 VTS remember!)
Get underneath the car and look up on the back of the engine, above the RH (longer) driveshaft.
Stick your hand up through the gap and feel around left (towards gearbox) There is about a 20mm hole there and you'll be able to feel the flywheel through it just about (can see it if not using a small mirror and a torch)
Now this bit is tricky because there are a couple of holes right next to each other other in the flywheel and if you get the wrong one it obviously wont line up at the camshaft holes.
Just get the person on the bottom pulley to go nice and slow and once you've locked the crank check up top, will probably take 2 or 3 attempts at least.

Top pins arent too important can use bolts/standard kind of locking pins but the bottom one is a funny shape, kind of about 30/40mm long, about 20mm diameter and tapers down to about a 8/10mm pin which slots into the flywheel.

Biggest problem is getting the belt covers off. I struggled even with the air con pipes removed.

Ive not really had any issues removing belt covers? Little bit fiddly but what isnt these days!

Total pain in the a**e. I suggest getting the correct locking tool from Peugeot to lock the crankshaft at the flywheel.

alright sweet ill have a look soon. Lets say i removed the crank pulley before locking the flywheel, whats the best way to check that your timing is still in order?
I found the trick to removing the covers was taking of a wiring loom in the rear top of the bay (comes of ECU/ECM) and manipulating the engine up and down via jack w/ block of wood under sump. Obviously drivers side mount was taken off before hand.

Not sure if they list special tool prices on there. Might be cheaper kits on ebay or even be able to by the individual pins

I bought the tool set in the end. This way i can fix many different Peugeots, cost me about $200 Australian Dollars (bare in mind im buying from the UK to ship to AUS so not too bad) thanks heaps for all the help guys, awesome forum!!
