Having an issue with my 206 1.g HDI GTI. I had to use a shell service station for a quick top up and 10 miles down the road the car is really slugish. No get up and go whatsoever. The car is running very smooth as usual but with none of the Ooomph that I'm used to. Also she will not rev over 3000rpm.
Car was last serviced 4000 miles ago but I didn't own the car then and so I don't know if the fuel filter was changed.
To me it felt like a blocked fuel filter that wasn't letting enough fuel through when it was needed. So I though I'd replace the fuel filter. The car doesn't seem to prime the new fuel filter. Is it self priming? Also there is a small overflow at the bottom of the fuel filter (both old and new) and she seems to be letting a bit of fuel out of there as well. I think this may sort itself though when the filter is primed.
Any help or advice gratefully received.
Cheers
Chris

I seem to have drained the battery now.
Is there a set way to remove and then replace the battery. Or is it like the old days when you can just undo the terminals, charge it up and then put it back on?
It's one of those days

PROCEDURE FOR BATTERY DISCONNECTION (The 3 Minute Rule)
Whenever a vehicle battery has to be disconnected, switch off all equipment, interior lights etc, close the doors leaving the drivers window open.
Switch off the ignition and remove the key and any DIAG equipment.
Wait a full 3 minutes before disconnecting the battery.
The BSi must be allowed to go to SLEEP ie into "power save mode". Do not operate any equipment on the vehicle during this time. Remember, even opening the bonnet will wake the BSi on a vehicle fitted with alarm.
If the battery is under the bonnet, open the bonnet first and leave it up.
ALWAYS disconnect any DIAG equipment and do not operate any plips from other vehicles during the 3 minute waiting period.

Depending if your car is pre-plex or multi-plex depends on the battery disconnection/connection procedure.
In the beginners guide it explains how to tell which electrical system is fitted and what procedure you need to go through to avoid an expensive bill.

Bit of an update, Went to the car the following day and she started fine. Still a lack of power and still won't go over 3000 revs so changing the fuel filter accomplished nothing other than taking it out of the equation.
I have to do quite a few miles this week so I think the best thing to do is use the car as she is and let the fuel get as low as I can then fill up with fresh and see what happens. If there's still no change then it look like she will have to go on a diagnostic. Ho hum
Cheers

DPF filter is probably blocked and that's why the engine is in limp mode. If you've not had any warning messages I'd check that the clock display is connected and hasn't had the bulbs removed, which seems to be a common bodge for people hiding any error messages.

Probably the turbo has failed. Very common issue
If it is and you do have it done you need alot more done at the same time otherwise the turbo will fail again within the year
if you want it properly diagnosed we are only in diss
