hi all, just got a 206 which has a after market radio fitted into it and it had a curious problem, on fm all it can pick up is the much more powerful national stations such as the bbc stations but the local stations is cannot lock onto. if i manually tune to the locals the signal is terrible and i can here a high pich squeak behind the station, it sounds like a mw station. i took out the radio and installed the aftermarket one from my old car ( a very good sony xplod) but i still have the same problem.
can anyone help??

also the centre clock on the dash is not working and i have heard this can be caused by the radio and the wiring, is this true?

just to add its a 1.4 LX v reg
many thanks paul

Perhaps it's the ariel that's the problem. As for the clock I'd check the fuse.

Reception issue - did you hook up the wire for the antenna amplifier to, for instance, the remote turn on wire on the new HU?

Display not working - AFAIK it could be that the HU puts out a solid +12V onto a wire meant to be used for communication with the display, thereby blocking all communication on the bus.
Seen some display issues resolved by a BSI reboot. If not, Peugeot has/had an ISO harness adaptor that amongst others will isolate the car's bus wires from the HU.

The non plexed displays as will be fitted to this 206 are known to be total s**te.

Even with a working radio I reckon the display still wouldn't work Wink

finally found the problem after much fiddling around.
the antenna is connected to the antenna wire for the head unit and another blue wire which im not sure what this is for, once i had disconnected the connection for this blue wire and directly connected the antenna to the antenna wire alone the radio is now fine. Thumb Up

looks like something to do with the blue wire was causing massive interference to the head unit Confused

Blue wire from an aftermarket HU is typically the remote turn on, used to tell amplifiers to turn on and possibly to power the antenna amplifier directly.

In the car, the wire for the antenna amp is a separate wire, but joins up to, and runs together with, the actual antenna coax wire.

could not see any spare wires behind the dash/ head unit and the plug type connection that the blue wire mares to the antenna looks pretty factory fitted ( or a very good car audio shop )

admittedly though i am still getting a poor signal at times and i know its no to do with the station as tried it on my old corsa and they are parked next to each other

Could you get a photo of that connection?

cant at the moment.
picture below shows a rough idea of what i mean. can you see the large silver piece that has a white wire coming from it? i have that but the wire is blue and the antenna connection just slips into the top of it and they should be screwed in together as one piece?

Hmm, not quite sure what you're meaning...

Are you saying the physical connection between the actual antenna (element) and the base is poor?
Or is the antenna wire (coaxial) that isn't solidly connected to the base? That might be a design thing to allow for one base/elelement and different lengths of wire, but then I'd expect some sort of coax connector, like there is at the HU end...

But if either of these connections aren't secure, Id expect intermittent/poor reception.

I wouldn't put any significance to the colour of the wire in this case, though blue matches up with what it'd typically be connected to on an aftermarket HU. I could easily see a manufacturer in this case use red, white, yellow... pretty much any colour they could get a deal on, as it's not much of a question as to what it's for...

I've never looked at the antenna end of the antenna wire in my 206. From what I recall (and it's been several years since I was last in behind the HU) there was a black wire ending in a small black rectangular onnector. The wire end was separated from the actual, coaxial, antenna signal wire for maybe 8" but then joined up in a wrap... but this is at the HU end.
