I've got a 206 1.1l (53 plate) and i have a squealing noise when i drive.
I had the clutch changed (that sorted one noice), but there is a second squeal i can't work out. I've checked the brakes, dismantled them and put them back together, and roughed/chamfered the pads so it isn't the pads.
The squeal starts after a while drive (the hotter/dryer the day the sooner it starts). It gets louder over the time i'm driving, and often goes away when i turn the wheels or when i brake.
But as i said, it doesn't start when i start the car, i have to drive for a little bit before it starts, and it's only when i'm moving.
water pump? wheel bearings?
Any thoughts, it's been like it for months and i just want it sorted.

Aux belt squeal? Just with you saying it goes when you turn the steering.
When you put the brakes back together, did you put any copper grease on the back of them?

Aux belt, didn't think of that! Would that not squeal on start up/stand still running though?
Yeah i put copper grease on the back

Sounds very like stone dust on the pads or braking system and a slight brake drag. I would strip, remove all rust and dirt then reassemble lubricating everything that should be lubed with the correct greases.
Might also be worth investigating the rear brakes.
Is the noise related to engine speed or vehicle speed? If it changes with vehicle speed it is almost certainly brakes. If it changes with engine rpm then aux belt, aux belt pulleys, power steering pump or alternator bearings would be my starting point.
Personally I still favour brakes.

I've known them fine at idle and as soon as you give some revs, they slip as they can't grip quick enough. When you turn the steering, it's natural for engine revs to drop as the car slows down slightly, which might just be giving the belt chance to catch up.
Same with braking really, unless you are left foot braking, you get off the revs.
If it's only happening when the car is moving, might be simpler to put the front end up on stands and simulate driving so that either you or a friend can try and pin point the noise or at least a general area it's coming from.

The noise almost certainly sound from the front end (i know noise directions can be misleading). The brakes where only re-newed 8 months ago, only done 10k miles or so on them.
From the sound i have favoured brakes, however i've stripped the front brakes enough times to be sure it isn't them.
I'm half tempted to just put it in a garage, my worry is money. I've had to buy a new catalytic converter and exhaust system due to rust (it literally all just fell off as i was driving) and a new clutch.

I've currently got the same problem as you, I replaced my brakes and pads a few months ago aswell. I cover greased them well. I plan to tear the brakes down again lightly sand the brake pads down grease the pins wire brush everything and see what happens if that doesn't work i'll need to investigate further. Also did you install the anti squeal clips?

I've done all that with no luck. I might pull the rears apart this weekend and see if it's any dust or something

Problem sorted buddy. I tore the brakes down. Took the disk off the hub an wire brushed the mating face. Then wire brushed the caliber and bracket and copper greased anywhere the pads touch the caliber or bracket including the inside of caliber where it touches the pads and no more squeeking =D
