Hi all my 1.4 petrol 206 rarely ever hits 90degrees. Driving today 11 miles (half traffic, half 70mph) my temp only peaked at just over 80.
Is this typical?
I bought it 3 weeks ago from a (trusted) mechanic who had fixed a blown head gasket. As a result there is residual oil in the coolant overflow (he had flushed as much as he could out, there isnt a lot in it). Ive driven 600+ miles and it usually stays between 70-80.
Any help appreciated

Yeah it's about normal. If I do the same as you mine sits at about 85 but might creep up to 90.
If I do a hard motorway run it sits at around 90, then drops to 80/85 after a couple of mins

The correct running temp on a petrol 206 will be 90 deg C.
Coolant temp sensor & / or thermostat will be faulty.

Yep it's normal, mine is exactly the same, only time mine ever hits 90 is dealing with stop start traffic and even then it drops down pretty quick when it hits 90

got my 1.1 to 100oc before at 101mph on the speedo that sounds fine to me though usually around 85-90oc

Did the thermostat get changed with head gasket? If not I would replace it as it does sound like you are running slightly cool and that cool running will cost you an extra 3-4 mpg. (Well it did on my daughters car.)
Job is fairly easy and cheap(ish.)

Im not sure but I should be able to find out. Im currently averaging 41-42 MPG (using an app to log mileage/litres of fuel).
Sound ballpark for a 2001 1.4 206 95,000miles ?

Hi there,
41-42MPG is slightly low to me, but then again I drive quite slowly. How you drive makes the range quite big. The rated combined fuel milage is 45MPG, so you're close to it.
EDIT: why not start the car and hold the top radiator hose from 70C onwards, if you feel it get hot suddenly the thermostat is working, if it gradually heats up then chances are it's stuck open.
Someone will be able to confirm but i think the thermostat should open at 85 - 90C.

Thermostat should open at 88 / 89 Deg C on the petrol 206

Update 2: I got the car to 90 degrees on the gauge and noticed the radiator fan came on, which is good. I let the car idle after a 4 mile drive plus the weather was really warm. Hopefully no issues.
