It's there to make sure the air goes through the radiator rather than round the sides of it.

I would have wired that straight through to the starter and alternator. All that wiring needs supporting too.

Yeah needs finishing as yet just main work doneevery thing will be sorted once all wiring has been done and all switched then I'll startto put it all vback in and clip all the wires down with p clips or similar. Might leave the fuse box in place of the glove box and have all switches in the centre console where the hu used to be and heater control

Nice !
I'm planning to put my battery in the back as well.
Is there a guide how to properly do it on a Gti 180 ?

basically what you see in the pics, it will be the same for the 180
i used welding cable 5mtr then put audio wiring crimp terminal on the end and bolted the + ive together and moved the earth to the chassis earth and re earthed the battery in the boot, realy simple

tiny update
bsi is now in the bin so more wires to be removed, lights and wipers to wire still
also took off bumpers and jet washed behind them and cleaned up the little parts involved, fog to be used as brake cooling ducts so cut away at the glass, noticed one tyre had gone flat which caused a nice big deep crack so the wheels will be sold on and new either td's pro race or 205 speedlines going for 15"
