This wire I found disconnected under the hood at the top of the engine bay (passenger side):

I cant seem to find the socket in the same area where the wire is to plug it in...

What does this wire do?

Car seems to drive normally with no lights on dashboard

Think it's for the alarm. Guessing you don't have an alarm fitted otherwise it would go to the siren module.

If you can't find where it plugs into, it probably does nothing anyway and if it did, you would have known before now.

If you look elsewhere in the engine bay you will probably find a few more unused plugs too.

Why would Peugeot leave unused wires in the engine bay?

Lets say something goes wrong with the car and the hood is open and the driver pops the hood and the driver sees a disconnected wire. So the suspicious goes straight on that wire.

Or a dishonest mechanic at a garage can use this wire against you and say all sorts of crap.

Cheaper to build one loom for different models and optional extras, than building an individual loom for each car.
Plenty of manufacturers do it.

You'll find a few like this around the car. I also have the same engine code and even though it has manual wingmirrors, the connectors are there to attach electric ones
