Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a Peugeot 206 cc 2.0 (2003) for the Mrs. Just a run around for a couple of years.
We have just noticed a weird rattling sound from the engine/ front exhaust area. Sounds like a penny shaken in a jar sound. This rattling only comes and goes. After the car is warmed up I don't hear it at all after around 5 minutes or so.
Anyone know what this problem is ? (please see video attached with volume up)

I suppose we could live with it but I'd rather get it checked out. Two garages had no idea what it is and said they would have to strip it down underneath and investigate obviously to determine what the rattle is. Only thing is labour costs and don't really wish to get stung!
I've read a few posts and people have experienced similar with manifolds or just tightening a part etc.
If anyone could advise with with their expertise or help I would really appreciate it. I thought i'd add a video of the sound. Like i said before, this sound completely disappears after a while and only seems to appear before warming up. I have drove it for around 2 weeks and drives very well. The exhaust cat on there is new and some garages said it could be box so I paid and replaced with a new one, but rattle is still there unfortunately.
If anyone could help in identifying this sound that would be great?
Many thanks
Dean

Have you tried to tighten the bolts on the manifold? If so I would start there. If that solves your issue then I would be inclined to check the condition of the engine mounts as this could be the reason as to why it's been shaken loose.
In all honesty a knock or rattle from an engine could be a million things and a little hard to diagnose over the internet without people just speculating and second guessing, for all you and we know it could be the horn mounting bracket come lose rattling around.

+1
Get the bonnet up, have a look and feel around if there is anything loose, have a good yank on the exhaust to make sure it's tight. Start the engine and stick your head under there again and see if you can pinpoint a general area the noise is coming from, and then start your investigations there.
I had an annoying rattle when I got the car, took 30 seconds to discover there was a bolt missing from the manifold heat shield, and less than 2 minutes to find and replace the bolt. Granted that was on a TU lump, so easier to spot.
