Ok so I have read a lot about the brake upgrade on here and I a lot of negative things abit them, I.e long pedal travel, squeeling etc. 
However I have also read that just a getting the right combo of brake pads and discs can produce the same performance
What are people opinions yes or no? And if yes what combinations have people find to work the best?
Really on the fence here guys (and girls)

This is such a broad range of spectrum question, a few tips, no you won't get the same performance from other pad and rotor combos because pads and rotors are not related to the calipers in this point. The Brembos have a more even and higher clamping pressure thus they work better, that's end of story, safe to say the rotor or pad will still do its job as effectively as it can regardless of the caliper its attached to.

I was of the opinion that the std 180 braking system (caliper/disc/pad combo) would be equal or better than the 406 brembo caliper change given the right pads due to the updated design of the 180 when compared to the slightly dated 406 brembo. Also to really improve performance of the brembos, the gti6 or 406 master cylinder should be used to improve pedal travel and feel. Squeeling is a by product and depends if you can live with it.
Keep in mind you can have the best braking system but at the end of the day good tyres and good suspension are required for it to perform as it should.

Thanks uttz. I was going to run them run them with ferrodo ds2500 or ds3000 pads and discs. I Think I have the suspension and tyres sorted. For the mo and it already feel daily nicer and stable on the road. Just feel like when I stand on the pedal it should slow down abit quicker...are the 180 brakes bigger than the original gti brakes?

To be honest, you'll experience a better braking experience by replacing the brake fluid and correctly bleeding it out, then by ensuring that the caliper pistons and sliders aren't full of rust. Braided hoses can prevent a bit of flex and give a better pedal response too.
It's reasonably common for a big preference towards Mintex discs and pads - these do a great job for road use and I've never had an issue with them.
In all honesty, just replacing the brake fluid should have a massive effect - won't go into detail why, but it's too easy to forget how much this can affect the calipers.

Yeah I've just done that today with complete new pipes and braided hoses to the rear and new braided hoses on the front. Filled with dot 4 fluid to try and make it abit better. Going to order new pads and discs all round when I get back in 2 weeks.

try the 302mm set up?
ive had pretty much the same set up on my gti as you have now and recently upgraded to 302mm drilled discs,braided hose,dot 5.1 braking fluid en ebc red stuff.
SUCH a big difference compared to those crap stock brakes!

Standard for brake fluid is Dot 4 anyway.
Did you get to check the condition of the calipers?
A standard disassemble & clean can do good.

no 302mm,mine came off a 307rc.
307 break has them,i think any peugeot with engine code dw10bted4 has them but im not 100% sure.
calipers can be a bit hard to find though,think they should cost the same as 180 calipers or there abouts.
207 rc calipers should be the same,but probably more expensive since they are still pretty new.
i have an extra set of calipers for sale,but im not sure if ud be so happy knowing how much shipping would cost to the uk
