I am about to attempt to reset my bsi, car is 2000 plate 2.0 gti, except every instructions I've read involves lowering the drivers window. I'm attempting the reset because my windows no longer open, is it safe to do it when I can't open the window? Thanks.

2000 GTI is a NON plexed electrical system, no need for a BSI reset on these.

Oh. I was attempting to do it because my electric windows have stopped working, would it do absolutely nothing then? Back to the drawing board it is...

If both windows have stopped working then check the fuse & window switch are both ok.

Did you disconnect the battery, when you worked on trying to fix your cigarette lighter.

I know on multiplex you should always disconnect the battery supply, as you can cause damage to the electrical system. not sure on preplex though, (i should imagine you can).

MrBSI, there is no fuse correctly labelled for the windows, any ideas what number I'd need? And I'm gonna get a multimeter today and give it a check to see whether it's just the switch needs replacing.

DREWDEN, I did not, my car is pre-plexed. Would I likely to have damaged the switch? I'll see if I can pick one up at a scrapyard/eBay and hope for the best I guess haha

Moved to Solved.

What was the solution? Might be useful to others in the future.
