I made a thread a while back about my 206 GTI 'V' reg losing its aux belt, and I managed to replace it.
Well, same again within 2 weeks. The aux belt came off this time, and I noticed that the middle 'tooth' of the belt (the belt has 5 grooves running around its inner circumference seperated by raised areas I refer to as 'teeth'), has been stripped clean off. None of the other 'teeth' are damaged at all, although ojne would have expected them to be damaged as it is clear the belt has slipped off.
I had just been traveling through Oadby and Ratby, the speed-hump capital of the midlands. Very rough roads.
Could engine movement have caused the aux belt to 'jump' off the cogs?
(addendum...the aux belt was fitted correctly, and the tensioner in place. It has worked perfectly since I fitted it a week or two ago)

I would check each pulley it goes around. Did you fit it yourself, the tension should be too tight for it to jump.

Thanks for the reply. When i fitted it, the tension was perfect. the tensioner was doing its job ptroperly and it worked for over 2 weeks.
Just been out to refit the belt and found that I have about 3 inches of slack 
I have routed it correctly, and none of the components appear to have moved (alternator, Ps etc) but I am absolutely stumped as to how I can end up with 3 inches of slack on the belt. The tensioner is in place and working. The routing is as follows...

Yet I have 3 inches of slack. surely a belt would not stretch like this?

Does the tensioner flick back once you move it? Are all the pulleys definitely there, not unheard of for one to come off
That diagram isn't the gti set up either.

Tensioner flicks back strongly, yes (my knuckles have the grazes to prove it), The gti I have has the power stearing and the ac. Old one, a 'V' reg.
I have tried to take pictures, here you are. I also tried to make a quick diagram in paint. Hope these help as this car is my daily driver and Im back in work Monday so need to get it sorted by then...
This is the same aux belt I fitted about 2 weeks ago. you can see the missing central 'groove' caused by it jumping off.
This is the routing I have used...
I am lost as to why it now has 3 or more inches of slack. you can see just how much in the first picture. you can see it looks like there is a cog missing, but all rollers and cogs are there. Alternator has not moved, not has power steering pump. And even if they had, to take up the slack would mean they would have have to have moved hugely.

Last 2 diagrams on that page show correct layout. You want 2nd pic with aircon, the diagram your using is for the 1.6
You should have to put a fair bit of tensioner on the tensioner to give it slack. I'd use a new belt as well.

If thebelt was slack I would imagine it would be jumping and rubbing. Keep an eye on it, I would replace it if the fault is gone.

Maybe there needs to be a sticky with the correct routing diagrams for each engine for aux / timing belts?
