Hi all. Been an eventful evening for me. On my drive home my car felt hideously underpowered and then as I was on the Middle of a double mini roundabout the cambelt snapped. Biggest kicker is that my car was scheduled in for a service on Tuesday! ****!! So, any Mechanics in the Somerset area who could do something on the drive for me? Got it recovered to a friends place for a small fee.

What engine? Probably worth just selling it tbh, as any petrol engine is a BIG job to fix, and judging by what you said you dont quite have the cash

Get a Haynes manual and some teabags, then you're all set!

More worried about if my valves are buggered or timing is off. Either way doubt I can re-time it myself. Never done anything mechanical short of topping up the oil or changing the bulbs.

More than likely it will all be bent. Engines are cheap enough to replace. Maybe best you replace the car.

Are you sure it's snapped?

Not entirely sure. Got my girlfriends bother coming over today to see if the cam belt is snapped, but if it is, I'll sell it. If not, then hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with it. Don't really wanna pay another £50 to get it recovered to a garage and then parts & labour if the cambelt is definitely snapped.

One option worth trying is to go to one of the smaller car parts shops and ask at the counter if they recommend anyone who would it for you at a competitive price.

Lots of the people who buy parts there will be mechanics who do the type of work you want done.

Morris 1000, Austin 1100, Escort Mk2, Fiat Mirafiori, Alfa 33, Alfa GT Junior, Alfasud, Alfetta GTV (2x), Alfa 164 3.0 V6, Alfa 164 2.0, Alfa 75 V6, Alfa 156 2.4 (diesel remapped 200bhp), Alfa 147 GTA (3.6 295bhp), Alfa 159 (diesel remapped 245bhp 300ft.lbs @ 2500rpm)
Why isn't my daughter an Alfaholic?

Until you've looked don't assume its snapped. If it was under powered before sounds like it could be something else

Haha you're right. Cambelt is fine. Even spins around and everything inside the engine is spinning. So, suspected electrical fault? Has anyone in Somerset got a code reader?

Try and find someone with pp2000. Or buy it yourself off eBay.
