so passed my test 2 weeks ago and bought a 02 plate 206 1.4lx, only recently started driving it as it needed a clutch change and wishbone change (which I didn't know when I bought it) had it back 3 days ago and when indicating sometimes the indicator doesn't stay on, and when it does, once you get straight again it flicks off and starts indicating the other way, there's sponge in there atm which means the problem has been identified before, but as a new driver its quite annoying when it starts to play up, now ive tried searching on google and saw that for this year there's a 50/50 chance it could either need just the indicator stalk replacing or the whole comms unit . . my question is there anyway without taking it apart to identify which it is?

It is indeed a faulty comms unit. Your best off replacing the whole thing for peace of mind if you ask me. Easy job one you can do yourself.
The Euro Car Parts website sell them for a fair price.

£30 isn't a bad price for a second hand one to be honest, but of course it could start to fail within a week of having it and unless there willing to give some sort of guarantee (unlikely) you might be better off buying new.
Having said that if the budget doesn't allow for a new one right now then £30 is a good price, but you may as well grit and bare it for a month more and hold the indicator in place when signalling.

I guess it comes down to if your happy to possibly chuck £30 away for a chance or until the budget allows atleast. ?

A new stalk will be the best way to fix things,as it can't go wrong, but as for the used one for 30 GBP it's a good price, you can try it,if you are lucky, then things will work out great Very Happy
