hello i have a 2001 206 gti, and am changing the clutch drivers side drive shaft causing me alot of trouble. i have remove the 36mm nut on the hub side, removed bot 11mm nuts and pushed the bolts out and turned 90 degrees. by hand i can move the shaft 5-10 mm but will go no further ive tried using hammer and chisel. a punch and a pry bar. have i missed something? does it have to be a certain way to come out or??? any help much appreciated. all thats left is the drive shaft and one gear box bolt and the box is out

soak it in WD 40 and leave it overnight to work in, you might have a better chance of getting it out.
I had this problem when changing one of mine, ruined the shaft getting it out tho but it was knackered anyway.

just had a thought mate, have undone the anti roll bar drop link? on my heap it wouldn't let me pull the hub forward enough to get the shaft out. got to be worth a try?

I didn't know you've already split the shaft into 2 piece's . it's stuck on the bearing, you'll just have belt it out with a hammer and small chisel on the centre, easier said than done when you are lying on your back under the car but they will come out. you've just got to keep at it hitting the lip which the bearing stops against.

Sometimes its easier to admit defeat & just unbolt the engine mount along with the driveshaft.
Its a bit to late for that option now on this occasion.

I took engine mount off the bottom (jack under engine) undone the 11 nuts a little .Turned bolts & undone the bolts that hold the driveshaft in place on the gearbox(diff).
where the mph reads from is on the diff attached to the gear box .
undo these bolts and it will just pull out .
There is a plastic bit that sits on the end of the driveshaft to read the mph . It has its own housing im sure its 3 13mm bolts .remove these . Easy to put back on .
You might want to note what way around the plastic bit goes .

Two long bolts hold the bottom mount on . Removed both bolts slide them out and simply pull the mount off . It easy make sure the bolts are out . 17/19mm ?? . Nothing in the way . Its only a small metal thin bracket .
