just had to put a new box (saxo, was sold as a 206 only to find it wasnt when i got home) on my 1.4 glx W reg due to a ticking sound when coasting.

got everything sorted all gears selectable etc but the clutch pedal kept slipping from to time to time like it was catching somewhere (i had this problem before i changed gearbox also, but now it had got worse after changing the box), so i took a cable i had lying around from a 1.1i 206 id had previously, and fitted that. now my clutch pedal is really high and the biting point is right at the top of the pedal. if you adjust the pedal via the bolt the biting point gets weaker and weaker as the bolt is tightened, then after tightening for so long youre unable to select any gears.

im sick of constantly chucking money at the car problem after problem ahhh the joys of french cars!

any help appreciated

You will probably have to fit a new cable

new cable required. Buy genuine Peugeot it will make the job much easier. Battery out, battery tray out, coolant header tank out.

Haynes manual has a good description.

The hardest part is catching the cable on the pedal. Very long thin fingers, almost stand on your head under the dash and work blind. I can do that bit in 2 or 3 mins now but first one was over an hour just to get the cable on the pedal. A genuine cable makes that bit so much easier.

A late reply i know, but one for the future. My sons (206 1.1 2004) was the same. It had a very high biting point, but I could manage to stall the vehicle, so pointing towards the automatic adjusting clutch cable being faulty.

Cost £34 from Peugeot dealer.

As Kandlbarrett above, but my hands are too large to fit the cable to the pedal.

believe it or not I had to remove the entire steering column to gain enough room to fit the cable to the pedal. The Haynes manual also mentions that you may need to do this. It took about one and a half hours to take it out, 5 seconds to fit the cable and then about 20mins to refit the column.

Clutch now works perfectly

Those cables really are fun and you do need piano player fingers to reach and do it without removing everything.
