Hello All

New to peugeot's recently purchased a 2001 206 2.0 HDI and all was well for about a week.

then friday on my way home from work three audible bongs came out of nowhere and a message on the display showing battery charge fault and the battery light on the dash came on.

shortly after this appeared the traction control light came on and the message ABS fault flashed up on the display again along with the ABS light on the dash.

Then shortly after my dashboard began to dim and then whilst driving on a dual carrigeway out of the blue everything went black no dash lights, headlights, tailights, indicators nothing then finally after making it to the slip road the car eventually cuts out and would not restart.

manage to get a jump start and get home and check the battery which appeared insufficent for the car amps not good enough etc. this was swapped for a bigger battery but after restarting the car it turned over but felt very lumpy and within mins the battery charge fault message reappeared and the battery light remained on. also the car seemed to puff out a lot of smoke and a slight burnt odour began to emmit. I checked the oil on the dipstick and the inside of the filler cap and so on but found no water or gunk that I could see.

not sure where to go next with this problem as I am hesitant to drive the car with this issue as you have no idea how far you will get and where you may break down again.

the only thing I have done to the car since purchasing it is to swap the head units out for my pioneer unit but this was a simple plug and play opeation I havent spliced any wiring etc. so surely that cant have caused the multitude of issues.

any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

tim

Sounds to me like your alternator is knackered and isnt charging the battery hense it going dead and why you got the warning on the second battery.

I wouldnt buy a new one, save some pennies and either get one from a breakers that has been tested or off ebay (make sure the listing says its tested and working, that way if it isnt you can get a full refund as the item isnt as described.

Before changing the battery make sure you follow the correct procedures which can be found here. www.206info.co.uk/Foru...nners.html

Failure to do so could cause you more problems.

I'd make sure you haven't lost the belt before you buy a alternator in

As stated earlier, it does sound like an alternator issue, but a decent auto electrition should be able to tell you what's wrong.

Check the earth strap on top of the gearbox first as well. If that's snapped or corroded, that can cause these kind of issues.

Shut it u stupid little f**k, what's the point in posting in all my treads being such a c***? Least I can afford a gti180, and to get the cam belt done!

So apparently everyone knows my financial situation? If I wanted a 180 I would have bought a 180 simples Smile

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This should be the first port of call, very common issue particularly with the weather and the nature of the short cables Pug put out!
