Hiya guys, hoping for some help of the 206 specialists for my girlfriends 206 who is now afraid to drive it.

The car developed a idle problem where it would fluctuate from 400rpm-1500 rpm on idle. If you revved it to say 4500rpm then take your foot of the throttle it would reduce down to a different rpm each time, 2000rpm one time then 900rpm the next time and this would change every time. The car is constantly beeping while driving also. Some times you can start the car up and drive 5 minutes and it's fine, then other times it is terrible as described above.

I initially thought it was the Idle control valve, so i installed a new one and it did nothing. I then thought this problem was beyond my skillset so i took it to a garage who hooked it up to a code diagnostic reader. It came back with multiple misfire and coil pack errors, so he changed the coilpack and put a new set of spark plugs in. This made NO difference what so ever, and now my poor girlfriend is over £100 down and nothing has been done.

We would both be greatly appreciative if anyone could give any advice on this.

Well first of all the garage shouldn't have just reacted to the codes; they could have been quite old.
What they should have done was noted and cleared the codes; test driven the car and then re-read the codes and acted on any new ones.
They won't be the first garage to jump on existing codes almost every garage does it.
You can buy a code reader on eBay for about £15 and they will work with every car post 2002 for engine diagnostics. This common interface for engine diagnostic is European law. Some manufacturers started building the interface into their cars as early as 1998. Buy a reader and re-read the codes. Note that the reader will give something like P0100 but there are lookup tables on the www.
Also have a very good look at all the air hoses on and around the engine (small and large) for leaks.
It is also worth checking the connectors to the engine sensors and cleaning the MAP sensor with carb or brake cleaner.
A Haynes manual may be useful for you. Not perfect but good for beginners.
