Ok, I have a 'V' plate 206 GTI 140.
Last week, I changed my drivers side wishbone. No issues whatsoever (took a while, but did it  )
Yesterday, I did the same thing on the passenger side. The driveshaft came out of the gearbox a little way and lost a dribble of oil, but I pushed it back in (hard...) and got it all put back together.
I then returned to the drivers side and removed the track rod end and fitted a new one, torqueing everything up correctly.
I put it all back together, and all the play in the stearing and suspension is gone Mission accomplished...
Except...
Since carrying out the latest repairs, when I pull off, there is a 'clunk' sound from the front of the car.
Also, when driving, if I let off the accelerator in any gear, there is a knocking sound which increases or decreases in relation to my speed (almost like there is something wrapped around an axle, hitting something...).
This noise disappears when I depress the clutch, apply the brakes or turn a corner. So I'm thinking it is wheel / driveshaft related.
Any ideas where I should start looking?
Gearbox? Driveshaft? Hub bearings?
Oh, and both droplinks were replaced with heavy duty items 2 weeks ago...

Driveshaft. Probably not lined up properly back in the box. I would have changed the oil seals as well while it was out. Be careful of spilling gear oil though.

I believe that you need to check your Drive Shaft Bearing,as this can worn out easily,and can cause the same problem you told us about.

Cheers for the info. Had a look and it seems to be engaged properly in the gearbox (no gap betweek driveshaft and 'box, turning when 1st engaged and front wheels off the ground.)
I did tighten up the wheelbolts on both sides of the front of the car and it seemed to have gone (although my test consisted of driving up and down my road, approximately 500 meters).
Ill feedback whether it has gone for real after I use it for work tomorrow.

It seems that I had not tightened my wheelnuts up more than hand tight. I was about to remove the wheel to see if I could replicate the problem while stationary and noticed this. I tightened them up, went for a drive and the noise is gone.
Just goes to show one should concentrate on one job at a time and finish it before starting the next.
