I'm having an issue with the bonnet on my 206.
On hot days when driving I get a bleep followed by the dash suggesting the bonnet has opened, this is causing a slight annoyance. Additionally to this when parked (again on hot days), the alarm keeps going off - leaving me locking up the car and not setting the alarm on an evening. I'm assuming the two issues are related and the sensor that detects if the bonnet is open is malfunctioning in the heat.
I have replaced the microswitch that is connected to the bonnet lock mechanism believing that to be the failing part, unfortunately this hasn't fixed it.
So...
Firstly, I'm wondering if my assumption is correct and there is a faulty sensor somewhere in the bonnet?
Second, have I replaced the correct part (i.e. have I replaced the part that would detect an open bonnet) or is there something else to check?
Third, if it IS the correct part - what else could be at fault that would cause the above symptoms?

Have you checked that the switch is being operated by the bonnet catch?

I believe it is.
What do you suggest, closing the catch whilst the bonnet is still up and check that it's making enough contact with the switch?

Yes just use the shaft of a fat screwdriver to push the catch down and see what happens. I can't see it being a problem because it's a simple setup.

Looks like the button gets half depressed when the catch is down (without any remaining force applied).
Also tried fully depressing the switch but it still reports that the bonnet is open.

wiring rotting away internally is odds on favourite especially given its location, heat, wind, cold, wet, try leaving it unplugged for a day or two

Disconnect the sensor at the plug behind the grill.
Fit a new sensor, there cheap enough.
It might be cheaper to get a complete good used bonnet catch including the sensor - not all 206 have a bonnet sensor fitted!

Thanks, I've replaced the microswitch that's connected to the bonnet latch - is that the sensor you're talking about? If so unfortunately it didn't make a difference. Do you think it could be the rest of the loom that's at fault?
I'll disconnect the sensor tomorrow and give that a try out, in theory that should stop it complaining at least!

Unplug the connector and bridge the terminals in the plug as if the hood was properly closed. Car still think it's open? -> wiring fault
To test the switch, get a multimeter (lowest Ohm range ) on the pins of the switch and see if switches between 0 (or close to) Ohm and infinity as the lock/latch is operated. (or if it has a continuitybeeper mode, see if it beeps/shuts up as it should)
Inspect the wires as they go into the plug as well as the connector elements themselves in the plug. They live an exposed life... (see rotting horn and fan wire/connectors/relays that also live in the neighbourhood...) and would be the most suspect spot.

Ok, I've bridged the connector on the loom and switched the engine on, so far its not reporting the bonnet is open. So that leads me back to the switch.
I don't have a multimeter available but I know a man that does. I'll speak to him on Monday, in the meantime I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't represent itself.

Did you get a look at the connector elements in the plug/socket? Might be corroded and what you used to bridge might make [better] contact.
Or repositioning the plug away from its normal position might allow corroded wires to get together.
Just throwing out possibles...
