So yesterday my friend disconnected my stereo with the engine still running, I know this wasn't a good idea now and was unaware that the car needed shutting down etc before battery removal. So basically more or less everything electrical stopped (I think the windows and central locking are the only things still working) and when I pulled over and turned it off the immobiliser kicked in. It's already cost quite a bit to have the car recovered...
Does anyone know what the best way to go about this now is? New bsi? Or new bsi ecu, etc? Or is there a cheap way to fix my bsi?
The car is a 2003 2.0 hdi multiplexed

New friend might be a good start...
If you are lucky (and I mean LUCKY) it may have just blown a few fuses. If you are the most rotten lucked person in the world you will have fried your BSI completely.
Look at the fuses (cabin and engine bay boxes) to check if any have popped. Can you turn the ignition on (at least to the accessory position) or is it totally dead?
What else works? Try turning the key to accessory, see if you can hear pumps priming. Does anything on the dash light up?

Hi and thanks to the quick response, the car still tries turning over and I think you can hear the pump prime, no lights come on at all though. I think it will probably be the bsi

I tried using the tutorial to sympathetically wake the car up e.g. The window down approach but that hasn't helped

You may have just fried the circuit(s) for the radio, clocks cluster etc. The fact it turns over and there is action suggests your friend hasn't completely blown it.
IF the BSI was buggered it wouldn't start at all, as the BSI sends a signal to the ECU to disable the immobiliser so the BSI is definitely still workinggg
Do you have diagnostics equipment (or know someone who does)? Even an OBDII code scanner would give you a clue as to what is going on

Fuses in the passenger compartment fuse box would be a good place to start looking.
The fuse that controls the immobiliser system is also linked in to the radio.
The 206 immobiliser system doesn't immobilise the starter motor so a 206 will happily turn over while still immobilised.

I have been lucky in this case and it has turned out to be the fuses, thanks for the replies and yes I did try the reboot, just gutted about getting it recovered 40 miles over a few fuses... Lesson learnt!
