How do. I have recently had my exhaust repaired and the idle is somewhat better. However....when I start up the exhaust stinks of petrol. The MPG is fine, nothing wrong there...but I also notice that when it is cold, and I am pulling away it is jerking...maybe a small misfire? Now I am having the timing belt changed on Friday and will get them to code read it..but...any thoughts on the smell?

Running rich at start up is normal. Should settle down after a few mins though.

Possibly an over fuelling issue. TB or stepper motor could need a clean, or even the MAF/air temp sensor.
Raw fuel going through the CAT isn't good.
Gone are the days when you had a choke and could control cold starts yourself. Now a box of tricks does it and relies on a number of sensors rather than the feeling you receive though the controls.

Parts that I changed over the last few months in order to correct the poor idle issues: New ICV, new MAF sensor, second-hand throttle body cleaned, new coil pack and new O2 sensor. Could it be an injector issue? Can a poor timing belt cause any issues? I am having it and the water pump changed tomorrow.

how about the car temp.,does your engine warm up fast,or it takes for ever to get warm,and the amount that injectors spray,depends on the temp. sensor of the car,so in on first start from cold,it run rich so the engine gets warmer,but when it start to get warm,the injectors spray less till it's reach the correct rate set by ECU.
so it worth be monitored,and since u have timing belt and water pump on Friday,replace thermostat as well,and fresh coolant too.

Had the water pump and timing belt/kit changed. The car feels fab..plus I added some cataclean. The old belt was actually in really good nick! As was the water pump...and that was the original one from Peugeot fitted in 2000. But its that piece of mind I guess. The old belt had done over 70000 miles...I have folded the old belt and it didn't crack.

Hhhhmmm....the car had started to really stink of fuel again. No codes...had it checked. So I have just taken the coil pack out and the third one along (from left to right) had some brown markings around the plastic. This is a new coil pack. So, removed that spark plug and it looks fine...a bit of carbon build up but nothing bad. I had some old injectors and changed the one paired with that plug. All back together and....three cylinder misfire. Take it all apart again, try a different one. Start it up...seems okay. Let it run for a bit, so far no petrol smell...but I am going for a long run later so we shall see. Could a spark plug not tightened up enough cause problems? It seemed a little wobbly when I put my finger down there. I have tightened as far as I dare as I don't have any way have doing it to the correct NM.
