Went out to start my daughter's 206 1.6 this morning. It turns (starter motor sounds a bit higher pitched and rougher though) but the car won't start. Any idea where I should start looking into this? It isn't showing any signs of firing up and I really am at a loss where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

The car is a 206 GLX 1.6 5 door on an 02 plate with 77,000 odd on clock. Got fuel in the tank and battery seems fully charged. Tried again and there seems to be "electrical noises" (can't think of a better way to describe it) from the plastic box which runs length of engine at the top - I am thinking that that may be the coil pack. This is the first 206 the family have had and that is why I am at a loss. I drove the car a few yards last night to park it tidily on the drive (to leave space to door for delivery this morning), and it started fine and run then so I really am at a loss. I am thinking could be coil pack, but not knowing what happens when one of those packs up I could just be envisaging the worse. I am thinking can't be started motor as, from previous experience, when the starter goes nothing happens at all. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated, I am not very mechanical minded but I will give anything a go to help my daughter.

Do you have the EML light on?if so it's better to have a diagnostic tool to check what you got.

Have you had heavy rain? Take the coil pack out and check its not wet on the plugs. Also check the belt first.
