So... my girlfriend's 206 passed an MOT a week ago. Yesterday I noticed the dipped headlight bulb had gone, so I said I'd replace it for her. Since then my life has descended into gloom and my credibility with said girlfriend is hanging on a cliff edge!
First I got a replacement bulb from Halfords (40mins through shopper traffic), only to find it's the wrong one as the car has separate dipped and beam bulbs. Before making the return trip I thought I'd just check the other bulbs: One sidelight out, one tail light and two rear numberplate bulbs not working. This is on a car that just passed an MOT. Hmmm... suspicious. But I trekked back to Halfords, looked up the car registration on their computer and picked up all the bulbs. Only to find when I got back that I'd now got two wrong headlight bulbs!
First I replaced the tail light and found it wasnt the bulb. So where is the fuse? Did some googling. Not listed for the box beneath the steering column or the one beside the battery. Is there another fusebox? Found the headlight fuses, they were ok.
Next replaced sidelight. Success!
My replacement headlight bulbs were the wrong ones, so thought I'd swap dud with the working one to test if the problem was the bulb or not. Didn't work. Switched them back. Now neither worked.
Whilst doing this I noticed a suspicious noise, perhaps electrical shorting, whilst the ignition was on. Is this a 206 feature? Seemed to come from a small box. (Goodness knows what it is, the engine bay seems stuffed with odd little boxes and hoses all over the place!) This one is in a prominent position in the middle, above the engine. It has an electrical input at the front, is about the size of two cigarette packets stuck back to back, and has VDO stamped on the side.
The stakes are high. Anyone got an idea how to sort this out before my girlfriend catches on that changing a lightbulb is about the limit of my car maintenance skills?

Hi Carlos. It's a 206 Verve, 06 plate. I've got the headlights working now, but the drivers side tail light and front sidelight, and the two number plate lights are all out. The tail light and sidelight definitely have good bulbs, but cant find a fuse for them. (It's not listed in the fuse descriptions in the manual.) Are there fuses elsewhere?

If it has a flattish/fat audio control on right side of column, radio is screen-less and a proper rectangle and clip on airbag .. MUX
Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Nope, no radio code to worry about as its multiplexed.

Radio is VIN coded to BSI unit.

Soft reset didnt do the trick. Sad
The throttle body unit in this car is quite noisy. With the ignition on, engine not running, it gives out a high pitched whine, and a noise like the hard drive on a computer working overtime. Is that the same on other people's 206s?

If it doesn't last an infinity, it's the fuel pump priming the filter, every peugeot does it

All cars after October 2001 are multiplexed (as Beginner's guide tells)

Tail and side lights on muxed 206 don't have a fuse anymore, they are all governed by the BSI. Have you had faults read?

Thanks Sim. The noise stops soon after the ignition is switched off, but runs continuously with the ignition on. Just tried it for 25mins, still going.

Taking it to the local independent Peugeot specialist in the morning, so hopefully they will read the faults. Over the phone he was puzzled why he couldnt look up the relevant fuse, so perhaps not such a Peugeot specialist after all?
