I have a Peugeot 206 (2002) 1.1 LX and I am trying to install a reverse camera to the car however it takes its power from the reverse light so I can only use it when I am in reverse but I do not know which wire is the reverse light wire and how I would connect the camera wire to the reverse wire.. such as do I solder the camera wire to the reverse light wire or use a connector? Any ideas?

My other question is.. If I drill 2 holes just above the registration plate, where will I route the wires from? I can see a plastic tray sort of thing when opening the boot and it seems like you can just pull it off which I could try to route the wires through that but then if I open the boot, wont the wires be in the way? Is there any other route I can take to route the wires? Do I need to remove the boot trim to get to the hole? This is so I can route the wires into the boot.

I am not sure where about I want to mount the camera too, I was thinking just above the registration plate or near the bottom on the black plastic bit. I do not want it to be visible much. The reason I have it is because I have my rear window tinted to the max and I cannot see out of the window. Also it would be a great function to have a camera for reverse.

If some body came up with an answer, it would be well appreciated.

Tap into the wires behind the rear lights, wire numbers 2200 or 2200A depending on which side you are connecting to. Solder and heatshrink is better as avoids dodgy connections.
Run the wires up the pillar under the roof lining and through the corrugated sleeve into the tailgate. Then feed the wire through the tailgate to wherever you want.

Look for a boot trim with a keyhole in it and mount the camera in that. Might take a bit of adapting but will look neater.

Alternatively, just rip the bin bags off the rear window and have a clear view behind you.

I understand the first bit about the wires. Simply look for the wire 2200 or 2200A depending on which side I want to connect too but I cannot seem to understand the second bit about the boot.

Are you saying I should mount the camera to the boot lid itself (The part which opens up and has the license plate on it)? I do not seem to understand what you mean by "the pillar under the roof lining"? Is there a picture I could refer to which you could draw on to help me out on what you mean?

If you open the tailgate and look near the left hinge, you should see a a black corrugated tube that has the existing loom running through it. Run the wire from the rear of the light unit and up the pillar to the roof. There should be an existing loom on the nearside so you could just follow the route that takes into the tailgate. Remember that you will have the AV wire coming the other way.

For mounting the camera, the trim where the numberplate lights are can have a keyhole in them. If you can find one, and you can fit the camera into it then it will keep the rear of the car looking neat.

You're other mounting option is at the bottom of the rear bumper although you risk knocking the camera if you go under for the spare wheel. The wiring is easier to route as there is a grommet that the fog light wiring runs through just behind the bumper.

Got to be a better idea to remove the refuse sack from the rear Window. It's a bloody 206 not a limousine.

I have attached a link of my tailgate and what I think you mean, please view the link when you have time. I now understand that the wire will go through the black tube however I cant seem to figure out how I will route the wire through the "pillars". Would I need to use something flexible to guide the wire through? The "pillars" are made from metal therefore they would be blocking me from being able to route the wire up into the tailgate etc.

I know but it is my first car as I am 18 and I am planning to keep it until my insurance gets cheaper therefore wanted to make it a little more "pleasing" to look at. Also it would be pretty cool to have a feature in the car which only most modern cars have.

18, first car & wanting cheap insurance, you shouldn't have picked a 206.

The amount of 206 that youth have written off have made them a very high claim risk for insurance companies.

Surely the bin bags in rear window have raised your insurance premium.

not bad paid £1500 for the year with a blackbox.. I havent mentioned the tints to them .. neither the alloys or the exhaust.. or the air filter or the subwoofers Laughing

I am not trying to hide the specs of it lol its a 1.1 Laughing The thing is.. I had bought it for £400 which was pretty cheap but then I broke down and found out the timing belt had snapped!! My fault for not asking the previous owner if they replaced it or not -_- so I spent another £400 rebuilding the engine.. so now it has basically a brand new engine in it with like 200 miles done.. the old exhaust fell of and had to buy a new one and the standard cost 35 whereas a custom cherry bomb cost 40 so obviously it had to be a cherry bomb lol and tints where because I have family and sometimes some privacy is needed .. along with that... they look pretty nice on the car.. picked up the alloys for £40 with tyres!

You'd think that but it doesn't make a different imo unless you're an older driver. At 18, a 206 was the only thing I could get insured on.

The insurance company will see it as exactly that .. And invalidate your cover. Plus th will make it impossible to get insured again. Let's hope you don't have a bump ...or get stopped by the police ... And there's nothing to draw their attention .. Oh wait ..

I already been stopped ones by under cover cops who heard the exhaust and thought I was a racer lol, then told them its a 1.1 and they laughed like hell broke lose LOOL but they just checked the car all round and gave advice saying "We advice you to change your front left tyre as it is 5 years old and can rip apart any time now, however the tread depth is fine on it therefore it doesnt affect your license etc" got that changed the next day..

Your next concern about MOT.. MOT has already been passed with no advisory's in November 2015 Smile

Can I just say.. This is meant to be about the wiring issue not my personal life with the car.. Great help you guys! Evil or Very Mad
