My So has developed the dreaded wonky rear wheels issue so I have been looking at new axles from the GTi 180 so I can kill two birds with one stone and also convert to disks at the rear.

Unfortunately, the original rear axle from a 2003 has been sold. I have found another that is apparently from a 2004/5 model. Will thus have Abs plugs that are compatible with those on my 2003 (53 Plate) SW?

Want to make sure it will work properly with my car before I spend out on it!

If you are converting from drums to disk you also need the handbrake cable. an the pick up rings in the gti 180 axle will be different to yours on your drum axle. When I had mine converted I had the rings taken off the old axle and pressed onto the new one so I could keep my existing sensors and plugs.

Yeah I thought as much. The axle I am getting comes with the handbrake cables so hoping I don't need to get anything else and the axle itself will actually fit otherwise I will.have to go back to square one with my search!

I just asked pro_steve on what exactly needs to match ABS (if there's something more to it than just rings, especially when there's an age difference - yours minor though -- just 1 year, so should be OK), let's hope he replies. It's more concerning for big age differences such as fitting a 2003 GTi disk axle on 1999 HDi

You are more limited by your donor axle choices due to the presence of extra reinforcing links on SW (the other being GTi 180)

2.0 HDi, year 2000 (E's restin')
Red GTi 180, year 2004 (VorTechS' sEXy Beast (being) remasteRed)
Blue GTi 180, year 2004 (in hibernation after endless driving fun in 2019, queued for "cambelt in tight spaces")
Missus' 1.6 16v CC, year 2007 (L-plates to P-plates to NO-plates, but now she wants powwer:))
£50 1.4 HDi, year 2002 (seatless transporter, SORNed, rust needs patching)
EV
Jag S(crapped)- & X-Type
GTC VXR (sold)

I fit a 2006 Gti axle with 21mm torsion bars on my 51 Plate hdi. the mounting points are the same. the only differences are handbrake cable and abs sensors. Providing the Axle isnt on a CC model where as that uses asr not abs. I used to work in a Peugeot breakers and we reconditioned axles

The rear sway bars can be swapped over to some axles. I know my GTi 138 has the mounting points for them.

Shut it u stupid little f**k, what's the point in posting in all my treads being such a c***? Least I can afford a gti180, and to get the cam belt done!

So apparently everyone knows my financial situation? If I wanted a 180 I would have bought a 180 simples Smile

The garage
2003 - 206 GTi 138 - Moonstone Blue
2003 - 406 Coupé 2.2 HDi SE - Hyperion Blue
2000 - 206 2L HDi D-Turbo ECO - Cherry Red
1999 - 306 GTi-6 - Blue (haven't worked out if it's Nile or China yet)
1987 - 205 GTi 1.9 - Graphite Gray

Cool, thanks guys, sounds like it should fit physically.

I wasn't sure if it would fit but it sounds like the only real issue will be if the abs sensors are the same.

Once I'm certain the abs sensors are the same I will get it and then I can move on to fixing the next issue.

Any 206 axle will fit regardless of what car it's come from. It's just the abs & braking system that differs. That and the thickness of the torsion bars & anti-roll bars.
