I've just got a 2002 206 GLX, 1.6 16v which I'd like to get ready for my son for his first car. It's done 97K miles. The car was given to me so it's cost nothing... yet. Initial issues that I'd like some advice on are:
1. Clutch bite point is VERY high but it doesn't seem to slip. Can I adjust it? Is it cable or hydraulic?
2. There's a typical worn bearing noise from the back, I'm assuming it's just a worn bearing. Are there any other typical 206 problems that can give that symptom? Is a bearing change the same as on most other cars?
3. The door open indicator shows one of the back doors as always open even though it clearly isn't. The interior light also flashes on and off, are these two things connected? Any starting point suggestions for fixing it?
4. The little control panel flashes up an airbag fault message. Is this common, are there any usual go to places to try and rectify this or is it likely to be a case of replacing the airbag ecu?
Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Okay. It would appear to be a cable clutch. From having read through various posts I get the impression that you can't adjust the cable and bite point.
If the clutch isn't slipping then could it be that the cable hasn't been replaced when the clutch was? Would a new clutch cable adjust itself so the bite point was more normal?

1.6 16v will be hydraulic so there's no adjustment, have you tried bleeding it?
2. Is it rotational? Or over bumps?
3. Sounds like the rear door solenoid has failed
4. Could be anything, get some fault codes

Thanks for the reply Addaz.
1. Okay. I assumed cable clutch because Andrew Page only listed a cable, no slave cylinder.
2. The bearing sound is rotational and constant. Sounds like rear bearings to me. I haven't jacked it up yet to check for play.
3. Are you able to explain the rear door solenoid to me? What does it do / operate?
4. I've got a Bluetooth OBD2 module. Where is the ecu socket on a 206?

1. It will be hydraulic, near on 100 percent
2. Rotate either wheel and feel the backing plate or listen for roughness. Dont forget to check your rear tyres for osscilation on the inner edge to (goes up and down, not smooth)
3. The thing which is also the door latch, controls all the locking for that door when a signals put to it
4. Below pannel on drivers side

You will probably need PP2000 (Planet Peugeot) or a commercial diag system to sort the airbag. Cheap bluetooth s/w only reads basic engine codes and then sometimes they aren't 100%. The airbag system works on different 'pins' on the port to engine ECU. Then the Pug also has the separate BSI unit ...
If 2002 it's got the Multiplex system so it's EOBD as well. Although that is OBD2 based it's not exactly the same.

Cheers Gaza82, I'd read up on PP2000 already, had a feeling I might need it. I've never had a Peugeot before. What is a BSI unit?
With regard to the back door, it's locking fine (predictably the battery in the key is flat!) so the solenoid must be working. I assume there'll be a sensor or wire to it that is disconnected or not working.

BSI unit stores info about car config, etc.
An example would be my HDi Style did not have rear speakers. When I fitted them I had to tell the BSI or they didn't work ... It also needed a change to get LW on radio too even though dealer fit!
I can get confused if the battery is swapped and not reconnected in the right way ... Although mine never has.
Add your location and someone nearby might be able to connect their PP2000 to your car to run a few checks.

Quite right Addaz. There's definitely a slave cylinder there and no cable in sight! IF the bite point is so high (and I've read enough posts to see this is not unusual) then it's possible that the slave cylinder might not be releasing properly? Is it that likely on these cars?

I managed to connect to the engine ecu no problems but as you say it won't connect to the airbag. Still, good news is there were no engine codes to worry about!

I'm in Hull if anyone is able to help.
Next step will be to get an MOT failure to see everything that needs doing from that perspective just to make sure I don't spend money and time and then find it's not worth it.
