Is it pre plex or MUX? (If you don't know just give me the year please). Have you tried switching the red and yellow wires with the (usually bullet type) connectors?

Most cars have 2 X 8 wire (ISO) connector blocks.
1 will have 8 thin wires (Speakers) Each Speaker will have a solid colour and the same colour with a stripe
The other normally has 3 thicker wires.
Red (Ignition Positive)
Yellow (Permanent Positive)
Black (Negative)
If you have a 4th Thicker Wire, Blue with White stripe, Yes Amp Positive (So it will switch On/Off with the radio)
And some Thinner wires
Blue (Electric Aerial Trigger)
White? (Radio Lights On/Off with car Lights)
If you can see below the ISO work up keeping the same colour across the connections. Stick to the 3 thick and 2 thin ones as those are what you need

sounds like the ignition live and battery live(for memory) are round the wrong way.
usually the red and yellow wires
