Evening folks.

My GTI has 100k miles but a niggle I can't get to the bottom of.

When at a standstill, in idle, in neutral or in gear, the car will gently shudder as if bopping to the beat of a song but the rev counter stays still. If I get out and look at the exhaust its also gently puffing in rhythm to the shuddering and if I check the engine, it does wobble back and forth. Gently. Normally when whizzing along on the road its nice and smooth. However occasionally (more noticeable in 3rd/4th) when at 2000rpm ish with a little throttle input, the shuddering comes back with a likeness to if the car is about to stall.

I've just changed the old NGK plugs for some new BOSCH single tips but this hasn't solved the problem. When replacing the plugs I noticed the metal tubings/housing that the spark plugs live in have a slight wobble? There was also oil on the thread of each old NGK spark plug as I pulled it out. Oil also seems to be seeping out of the oil filler cap....I think....unless it's seeping out through the bolts in the surrounding area.

Oh worth mentioning it's a Sagem coil pack, the coils look good. The connector that clips onto the coil pack only has three yellow cables attached though. No sign of a 4th and the 4th hole is blocked up with a metal stud.

Hope this all make's sense!!

Using 10w40 semi.

Fault codes read? Could be coil pack, hydraulic lifters...knackered valve...map sensor...

oil and spark plugs, and coils are not friends,so you need to source the cause of the oil first, and then see how things goes, coil pack can cause such a thing.

Have a look whether it has an OBD port on the BSI (next to fuses, underneath steering wheel). I would imagine it has, but I am not sure.
