Hi guys, new to this forum posting thing.
Although I am completely stumped after the amount of inspecting and forum reading as to what this could be. I have a Peugeot 206 1.4 hdi SW
Whatever this is, it vibrates the entire vehicle awfully at any speed. It’s not associated with the engine as revving in neutral is completely still.
And before everyone starts shouting it’s the driveshafts, they’re both new, and yes not clicking/any play either.
I had a feeling it may be the differential in the transaxle, the play is not very excessive and I am unable to move the driveshaft in any way except for circular.
I have checked the gearbox mount, unripped and the bolt as tight as it possibly could be. No improvement.
I have yet to look at the steering rack mounts, but after this, by reason of deduction (even without confirmation) I condemn the tranny!
I want someone on here to please tell me it could well be a £2 part over a £120 tranny instead.. please help me with areas I have missed?
Also, there is absolutely no rumblings/vibrations after I let go of the accelerator. Oh and another issue which I believe to be associated... the steering becomes extremely untrustworthy when I accelerate. Like it is understeering... and then as soon as I let go of the gas pedal, the car can very dangerously jerk in the real direction I’m holding the steering wheel in.
As you can see I need this sorted ASAP, any help would greatly be appreciated.
First thing I would check are the bottom ball joint/wishbone assembly, this is a common area for problems on f/wheel drive vehicles and will cause the car to veer about in the way you have mentioned. Whilst you have the wheels off the ground check the wheel bearings too. The wishbone rubbers are particularly fond of debonding from their rubber bushes and this completely changes the geometry of the car when switching from accelerating to deccelerating and vice versa. A pair of wishbones and drop-links can be bought for around £60 on ebay. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply HueyLions.
So I replaced both of the wishbones because of an MOT failure. The newer ones were slightly longer causing the toe alignment to change, but I re-adjusted that no problem. When checking the steering rack tomorrow, I will pay attention to the rubbers on the wishbones.
I think the bolts that are holding the wishbone ball joint in, the threads on those bolts were beginning to strip and the nut isn’t holding so tightly? It will be worth getting new nuts and bolts for that.
But surely 2 bolts cannot be causing the major issues I’m having? The wishbones are still held in place fine, it’s not like they’re bouncing in and out causing this horrendous vibration with steering danger!?... it would be good to have a go pro to see what was going on, but I simply can not afford one at this time!

maybe take a look at the saddle bushings that hold the anti-rolebar if not that i would amuse it would be wheel tracking related
