I've had numerous problems with my car cutting out. Its been fine for months now, I believe I've fixed the other faults and that this is a new fault as this one is not intermittent, or so I believe.....

The car will turn over and run fine on idle, however if you rev it up it will drop down to low revs and eventually cut out. sometimes it will just dip very low and pick back up.

I'm guessing it could be the idle control valve? I've checked the battery charging, resting and under load, managed to get a reading whilst the engine was stalling and it still read 14.xx volts

Many thanks.

I'd definitely start with the ICV. Do you get similar problems approaching junctions etc when the car is coming to a standstill?

And was that you yesterday that gave us a beep coming off M5 J12?

Nope it wasnt me!

I've now changed the ICV and its exactly the same. The car cuts out from the slightest dap of the the throttle or even moving the steering wheel, the slightest rev increase will cause it to cut out. it is possible to save it if you put your foot back down on the throttle. (All this starting from a stationary idle, not trying to move)

Will look at the plugs tomorrow, and maybe try and source a coil pack
Thinking about revving the guts out of it after its warmed up a bit to see if it misfires or anything, will try some carb cleaner too.

Quick update, The car will now rev to 2500 rpm when started when it warms up it will drop off to normal idle and it wont cut out. The car was scanned and codes were to do with the Icv and and numerous intake components, the codes have come back but the car still runs without any cut outs so far.

Another update, Car revs high when cold after you start it up, it will eventually drop to idle. After a couple of minutes running, the car will start up without revving high.

Possible temperature sensor fooling the ecu?

Have tried 2 maps 3 ICVs, 2 TPS and a different throttle body. the car will now idle fine at rest

if the car cuts out only when you stop at the lights or when you hold your foot on the brake?

if its the latter check for an earth leak on your rear brake lights they will cause a short and cut out the car.

Sold my car a while ago. I had numerous problems with the car cutting out. And tried many things to fix it....
Tried numerous sensors and bits and bobs with short term success, I changed the BSM which had water ingress only cost £5 from a local yard (make sure the numbers match up and all the fuses are there and not blown) this cured of the cutting out/ non starting problems for well over 6 months. Worth a shot however the car just loved to find a new way to cut out.
