Hi all,
Tailgate won’t open, recently had rear window smashed, had it repaired, now can’t get it to open, still makes a clicking noise when unlocking and locking, any advice on how to open it from inside the boot?

Hi, yeah I’ve tried pushing and pulling everything I can see but nothing is working. In that forum you sent me the link to it describes pulling a rod, would you be able to post a picture on here of the rod in question please?

Also, I don’t know what you’re referring to when you say rectangular cut out flap? Could you send a picture of this flap also please? The one we have is a 2008 model. Not sure if it differs to the older ones?

There should be a thin metal rod that connects to the tailgate opening switch/handle and the locking mechanism. It can become misshapen and when that happens pulling on the handle does nothing as it isn't pulling the rod.
If you can remove the panel on the tailgate from inside, you might be able to operate it manually. It's same on all the models although the CC is a particular nightmare to get to if it doesn't unlock!!
Sorry, no pics .. didn't have a camera handy when I was sorting mine a few years ago. I swapped the tailgate trim to the newer style and had a couple of times when it wouldn't work! Luckily the tailgate was still uncovered inside!!

I tried pulling on the rod and nothing. I can see when the handle is pulled to open the tailgate it is moving the rod so it appears to be connected still? I honestly don’t know what else to do.

Has the power lead come out of the lock mechanism? Worse has a wire been damaged when they fitted the glass?

You're lucky to have the cutout, some models come without, probably then is best to try and pull off the trim like Gazza said.
Just taken pics for the future readers of this thread
Could there be some deadlock in later year models? That would explain why nothing happens when you pull that link.

I have checked all leads visible and all seem to be attached. I may have to get the multimeter out and test the connections?

Hi sim,
Didn’t see your message last night when I commented, just seen it now, I pulled all the plastic trim off as suggested and pulled on the rod but nothing, not sure about the deadlock if it has one? Any other suggestions on how to possibly open?

Can you get someone to pull up on the outside handle/latch while you watch the other end where it is connected to the lock mechanism? Then pull up the lock lever manually to make sure it is moving it's full travel?
I suppose you have checked all the fuses to make sure it isn't one of those? (Sorry no manual to hand so not even sure which fuse it might be!)

Fuse F16 is for the central locking - not checked as of yet, but never thought to based on the car unlocking and locking all other doors with the fob?

When you lock car with fob it deadlocks tailgate. Otherwise it is permanently unlocked!

And if you lock the car just with the key in the door? (should also lock all round except not arming the alarm)
Here and here MrBSI says tailgate has no deadlock.
