hi all i am having difficulty trying to firstly work out how to get the part thats leaking of the car and secondly knowing what the part actually is.
i will try to explain where the part is and maybe someone out there can help me. there are two coolant pipes that seem to go into the actual car body itself about at the middle of the car the lower one of these pipes travels under the air system which i have removed and joins via a clip onto the part that i am trying to identify and where the leak is occuring .
it seems that there is another metal pipe that enters a plastic housing and i think that it is cracked underneath but you cannot look up from under the car as there are things in the way. this is the part that i am trying to get off the car . is it possible to get it off easily. i have undone two bolts (size10) but the thing is not shifting , i fear that there are more bolts hidden somewhere
can anyone with a vague idea what i am talking about please offer any insight . it would be much appreciated cheers tim

Which engine is this on, and could you get a photo of the bit you mean? that'd be the best way for us to help I think.
My guess would be, currently, the water outlet housing on the side of a TU cylinder head. Known to cause leaks as they warp/crack with age & can also cause head gasket symptoms of oil/coolant mixing as for some reason unknown to me, they also cover an oil gallery on the side of the head! Photos would be an immense help though.

hi ekjdm14 and thanks for your reply. i think you may have identified the part already although i will try and get a photo of the area as soon as my daughter returns home as she is the one with the fancy camera phone. my coolant is very mixed and is a quite brown looking so i reckon you are right with your appraisal. is this part easy or hard to remove as i said in my previos post i removes two 10 cm long bolts (about 8 cm long which went into the main engine compartment but the thing seemed well stuck in place

Cool hopefully it's just that then. On our 1.4 I seem to recall it was held on by either 3 or 4 bolts, will have a quick look when I get a moment and see if there's any hidden.
Photo still ideal just to confirm we're on the same page.

hi again dan i thought i would let you know that i managed to get the housing off . unfortunately there was a hidden bolt that i hadn't undone so the housing broke but at least i got it off and now i have managed to locate the part and have ordered a new one . it was the thermostat housing as you said so many thanks for your insight. should be fun putting the new one on

Cool, you're doing better than me then haha I'm fighting an electronic issue at the moment that's stopped the wipers and lights working amongst other stuff lol

I have a 2005 206 1.4 HDI which suddenly started pouring water out from under the engine this afternoon and I think may be the same issue that you have.
I had the "STOP" light flashing up on the Dash, and even after topping up the water 3 times it kept flashin up. Strange thing was that the Engine temp looked fine and never went.
Will get underneath tomorrow and have a prioper look,

Have you had anything replaced recently? Radiator perhaps?
I've found with the newer 'cheap' radiators you've got to be very careful about plugging in the bottom radiator hose, and making sure the clip is fitted properly, otherwise the hose will work itself loose very easily once driven. (It won't disconnect itself sat still with a few revs applied though).
Also check the bleed nipple on the top hose to make sure that's been closed properly (towards the bulk head on passenger side)
