Hi Guys, Newbie saying hello and first question.
As title says specs required.
Had the car for 10 years and still love it.
It is generally carrying a full load consequently I have so far replaced 2 rear ends with recon units. It is now looking for another unit...…..
There must be a better way.
Can someone give me the length, ID and OD of a 2.0 Hdi SW axle ?
And are they the same for all models ?

Dodgy recons .. ?
No, rear axles are different depending on spec especially down to the rear brakes .. (drums/discs) and the SW might be down to the extra weight it will be designed to carry.

The more I learn, the less I know.
The SW probs are down to the extra weight.
Just discovered this very morning that the GTI has odd rear axles. 47mm one side and 50mm the other.
I suspect that Peugeot found they had a problem, hence the later spec for the GTI.
So another question is born. I suppose the trailing arms will also be odd ?

SW axles should have a link from the trailing arm across to the beam, same as the GTi 180.
Another difference will be torsion bar thickness.

Had not considered the torsion bars.
Which would be stiffer the 180's or the SW's.

Nabbed this off of the old proboards (thanks to Adi )not used forums for a loooong so forgive me for forgetting how to quote! -
"The GTI180 torsion bars are 20.5mm. The SW bars are 20mm and the GTI 19.5mm.
When I last bought some GTI 19.5mm torsion bars, they were about £25 each. Not sure about the thicker ones.
The 20mm torsion bar will give an increase of about 10lb/in2........the 20.5mm bars.....will give a further 11lb/in2. So roughly 10-20% increase over the GTI bars."
TLDR; GTi180 bars are stiffer than SW, SW are stiffer than GTi.
Axle-wise the SW varies depending on if equipped with rear disks or rear drums and on ABS sensor type - as far as I'm aware there are two types. If you can narrow down if both brakes and ABS are the same then a GTi180 axle should work just fine - and they certainly seem to cost the same! Glad my SW hasn't needed a replacement yet!

Hi , Fresh face here, Having had axle break at hub joint area on my 2000 reg 206gti 180 I was supplied with a 2003 hdi axle and assured it would be like 4 like yet it feels every bump and pothole so fiercely it shakes the fillings from your teeth...you get my meaning! The original axle didn't have the extra bars ( forgot name sorry) that are attached at axle centre by alloy clamp?? This all has caused hell of troubles with exhaust pipe being shoehorned into position just sits short of bumper now and constantly touching axle especially during idle ,rattle sound increasingly annoying . Does anyone have any options other than removing axle to soften ride alot!?
