I know i pm'd you before thinking to search for a full build thread but can i just say this is absolute gold.

Can i ask, as i may soon be in a position to start a wide track project but on a much lesser budget, how much wider is the back end? All the body panel suppliers list 75 mm but it seems thats the front. When i found a wrc replica online that was done with spacers it listed 100mm spacers in the spec list. However none of the places like krs or tri competition seem to do rear axle spacers anywhere near that wide. Not looking at the pictures anyway.
one of my mates is an apprentice engineer and his boss reckons that he can make up the axle spacers and stub pins for me relatively easily so a definate with would be great to know.

alsowith regards to the front does your widening peice for the subframe get welded to the subframe or just bolt up? Does it extend the hub out a full 3 inches or is some of the extra width down to the wheel?
Would you be interested in making a pair of subframe extensions in exchange for cash monies as my mate who does all my fabrication work has two stage cars to build/rebuild.
i'm sure there is much more i could ask but short of catching a flight over to have a nosey around yours i'll leave it there

Could a totally different rear axle be made to fit? Something like a BMW 1 Series etc but without the diff and shafts? Ford Focus has decent suspension on the back.

Of its a rally car probably not for regulations. But you never know. However theirs nothing up with the good old torsion bar rear beam in my book.
the amazing simplicity of widening the original beam is also great.

i just wish it was as simple to widen the front of my 106 rallye as it is a 206 Sad

Im currently in Australia for a year so wouldn't be able to make any bits for you, the rear was straight forward to widen with extended stub pins and a spacer to extend calliper bracket out from what I can remember it was 75mm I changed few bits afterwards to suit the brakes
I seem to remember the original wheel track being narrower on rear so front wasn't widened as much

The front was another matter if I was doing it all over I would have made a complete new tubular wishbone and use original subframe mounts the strut turrets are the important bit to widen correctly I had to change them twice to suit
Start with measuring your driveshafts get a set of shafts from a 407 1.6 hdi put the 206 gti outer cv joints onto them and compare measurements from memory I think 55mm longer and widen front top turrets and wishbone to suit that measurement
Start with widening the front then match the rear to same track I modified the body panels to suit the wheel track so my car is slightly narrower than actual WRC
The fiberglass kit I got was a shockingly bad fit I spent a serious amount of time spent modifying it to fit so be prepared for a lot of work depending on the kit you use

Final bit of advice you will spend twice what you think it will cost and three time as long as you think it will take half way through you will want to burn the f##kn thing but stick with it be worth it in the end Laughing

Thanks for that man.iappreciate what your saying on cost. My rallyes engine build was meant to cost less than a grand and escalated to two and a half. Typical eh.
as for the quality of the kit i waa most likely going to use a kit from ac-sport in france. I got my 106 wide wings from them and tho they were far from perfect they were better than some of the crap i saw when the bodykit thing was massive years ago.
did the 407 shafts fit the regular gti intermediate bearing holder?
My other plan was to fit ac-sports plus 50mm bodykit.
tho this would be much simpler and i love the look of it it doesnt quite look as cool as the wrc/s1600 kit.

Regards tubular wishbones, my parents are planning on buying a house in france near the mountains so i'd like to keep as many suspension parts as possibly as readily available standard off the shelf replacements.

Another idea is that where you have welded in the strut tops we could use the laser cut camber adjustment plates instead. This would give us a little bit of leeway if we get something imperfect.

i suppose if we did need to widen the kit more than is possible the ways we've talked about a 25mm spacer wouldnt hurt.

i'll bang up some pics of the bits i'm talking about in the next post.

The ac-sport +50mm kit. I love the looks and it would run on 16" wheels looking at it. That should mean it wouldnt slow the car down and could theoretically be run on my gti hdi which would make a 1600 mile round trip to the alps a bit more affordable.


 



 



Here are some pics of the strut top plates fitted to the rallye, its a 6mm plate laser cut and machines with a ten mm or so rebate around the edge to stop them pushing thru once welded in. These could be fitted simply to any car really.
should help with any discrepencies in fabrication
