Spotted the car on pistonheads with 37k miles from new and on original engine, in short, i just had to have it! Very Happy It's now done 38.5k miles.

When i went to fetch it and pics the day after

Me and Graham at our random stop for a blether as the motorway journey gets a bit tediously boring after a while! lol.

 


 


She made it home quite alright! Smile I haven't cleaned either car here by the by, this is how the 309 looked after doing about 500 miles...

 


 


 


Wheels were a bit more corroded than i first though, this is in the list of top 3 things to do Smile

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


This is the only bit of rust i found without having to look really hard Laughing Easy fix this though!

 


 


 


 


 


 


 


New spark plugs and leads were done not so long ago.

 


Master cylinder and servo were replaced a few months ago Smile

 


Original dealer plates - loving how it was still peugeot-talbot...

Included with the sale of the car (unknown to me!) were a fair few extra these include:

Original key fob, additional button for the alarm and an original dealer key-ring torch!

 


Few extra bolts, but was also nice to have an extra key for the pug locking nuts and their original box.

 


£2 off ebay so it's just a spare the old owner said Laughing

 


Gasket and rocker cover which the ex-owner was going to have powdercoated but never got round to it. So he gave it to me anyway but I like the idea too.

 


Best bits...This is a little 309 scarf or such like

 


And a bomber jacket from 1992! It fits me but it's a bit tight!

 


And me modelling it! pmsl It's hardly been worn by the looks of it.

 


Finally, both cars together, new and old Gti's!

 


 


I'm loving the car Smile Although it does have a minor oil leak from somewhere Sad It's only leaked after one journey though. Will get a diagnosis on that on Tuesday!

Tomorrow I will probably give the interior a little valet and scrub the matts - i have a good rubber care product that will get them gleaming once again Smile The boot carpet needed a clean as i gave graham a spare nimrod alloy wheel as he doesn't have one for some reason? We took that on the journey down but it's made a lovely mess of my boot carpet Sad

I'll give the bodywork in the engine bay a good wax as well as the exterior, and i've heard vaseline is a good method for keeping dirt off the inside of the arches and it helps to stop them rusting??

Amazingly the clutch isn't heavy, it in fact feels like my old 1.1 clutch but with a lower biting point and more snatchy Laughing The steering feels very tight, the gearbox seems very smooth.

Intermediate service 15/09/09

Car is fine and up on the ramps it's completely rust free having been undersealed, i knew this but it was good to have the proper ramps to have a good look.

I thought I had an oil leak, but but it turns out the leak is from the power steering - So i just need a bit of pipe replaced. I need to go back to get it looked at to diagnose exactly which pipe it is.

Just needed a new clamp on the end of a hose. This was good news, better still it was fixed for nothing and that's a price you can't beat! Laughing

First proper clean 30/09/09

I did a few wee niggly jobs today that i have been meaning to do since day 1!

Wasn't keen on the mahoosive GB badge on the boot lid.

And then i went to town on the cleaning.

I'm also on the hunt for baby hair/bath brushes for kids under 18 months or something. Stuff with really soft bristles so i can tackle the leather. They're mint but could be much better Smile

Todays efforts and i removed the pistonheads window stickers too - they looked naff!!

Makes a big difference i think, looks more original and cleaner without extra stickers not to mention that there's nothing original about them either. A good lathering of tyre shine has helped make the wheels look a bit better too in general!

BEHOLD! A Door! 01/10/2009

It was well packaged much to my delight and in good condition...

 


...However there are about 5 dents and a 5p sized spot of rust which need seeing to! Sad But over-all though i'm chuffed with it! Smile

Double Delivery

Well I had a double delivery today! Shoiny bits and a set of rear lights! I had to buy the pair in order to just get one of them replaced, but well worth it as there was a 10-15cm crack in the lens.

Niggly Jobs

Niggly jobs again!

Here's the crack in the light, when i took it off i noticed it was cracked on the back as well which worries me into thinking that it's had a rather good shunt on that side before but all seemed well behind the light apart from a little lacquer peel Sad

 


Gave the shell behind a good clean before placing the light back in.

 


By trying to keep it as original as possible i swapped the rubber seal and the bulb panel across, which were much cleaner anyway! Very Happy

Muchos better!

 


Removed the rusty brackets for the cd changer to find that they've badly stained the carpet. I need to have a look behind the carpet to see if there is any further rust damage (ie yet to figure out how to get the carpet off properly...) , however I cant see any rust at all in the wheel arch!?

When i replace the bracket bolts i think the best method would be to stick a rubber washer on the back and a nut to keep things water tight instead of just a random screw though the shell. However I'm worried that the nut requirement might hit the tyre? Will soon see after a bit of investigation.

Note the highly rusty screws! The brackets will be rubbed down kurusted just in case and painted black again.
 


I managed to get the fuse box to stay the hell up in the glovebox so the lid clip on one side that's broken is now "fixed" with some double sided tape! I dont use the glovebox anyway so this was a cheap resolution to a problem and tidies things up a bit.

 


Lock-up and cam belt cover

FINALLY got a lock-up sorted for her...so i've chucked some of my car bits in here (still bumpers lying at the side of the house lol).

It's pretty narrow, but there's enough room on one side to open the door and i can walk round 3 sides of the car.

 


So that's her tucked away over the winter Smile

 


Meanwhile i managed to get my hands on a metal cam belt cover which are only on the phase 1's. So I gave it a good clean today.

 


Turned out not too bad at all Cool Only problem is because it's an old chunk of metal it's not exactly nice and flat to work with so there are some odd dents i can't get to on the outer side.

Sanded/wet sanded down

 


Then applied some autosol to get rid of the sanding scratches.

 


Service History Found! Very Happy

Well since the car car came with little service history, i did a bit of digging! My plates still show "grove of rugby" and the original V5 is a rugby address. Knowing that the original owner was a Peugeot technician i decided to contact Peugeot in Rugby to see if they still had any details of the car... soo errr... yeah..more than i thought they'd have on the computer system and the service manager is going to send me a printed/approved version in the post free of charge it seems!

92-98 I can only presume was much of the same care and attention as it was under the same owner as above.

Wheel lip refurb 28/11/09

Well...Pictures speak for themselves really i hope! But I will blether anyway...as i do so well.

Decided not to get them refurbished as in the main the finish on the centres is fine for now. So i'm going to keep my £250 in my pocket for now and used what i had lying about in the garage to do wheel number one, the test wheel.

This wheel is the same one that's shown up there by the by ^^ ie it's the worst one! One done with a few niggles to sort and 3 to go...

 


 


What a mess having the weights on the outside made to the rim! Sad

I finished this one at 12.50am Neutral Didn't realise where the time had went. Started about 9pm, took 45mins to go the shop. So aye, around 3hrs to do the rim. No machine polishing was done here. I don't have the right pads, the wool one i have is FAR to big for the job. So autosol and 1200 grit wet and dry was the final stage instead. This was after a chisel (you may cringe but the results are ok right? Wink ) and heavier grit sand paper sesh.

Well after a further 9hrs in the garage dancing away to some chilled house sessions on the ipod...the wheel polishing is done! Very Happy

They have all been balanced up on the inside too and are ready to go. I feel that i might try and scrape a few hundred together to refurbish the inside and centres of the wheels though. Noticeably corroded in some places. I might do the insides myself to save some money but I might not be saving that much, so i might as well get a pro finish. Anyhoo...that's a possible job for next year.

The day started by whipping all the wheels off so i could take them to ecosse in my 206, to save some mileage getting racked up on the 309, plus 2 of the wheels were completely unbalanced so the 309 would feel like it was going to fall apart! I gave the 206 a clean as well as i've not touched it in about 2 months!!

I then went back to ecosse again with the 309 to see how much my bodywork repair will be to give me a kick back into reality! I have seen other niggles on the car that need attending to other than the spoiler and the n/s/r door. Although, Scotty noticed some lacquer peel on all doors of which he is quite right to point out and something i want to sort, this was a point raised elsewhere on the car too Sad But hey, at least it's not rust! Basically 2 sides of the car getting done so that it's spotless.

My o/s/r door was diagnosed as needing an actuator.

17/12/09

Actuator has arrived. Best £12 i have ever spent on a car. I am going to fit this before christmas! Thank goodness the car's been in a lock up whilst one of the door's wasn't locking!

 


The winter/snowy cold got to my battery and it just wouldn't hold charge so got myself a new one. I also thought the alarm had faults, it turns out the fault was just not enough juice in the battery - i thought i was going to run into immobiliser problems when fitting the new battery but now when i think about it...no idea where i got that from! Anyway, a few celebratory pics. She lives again! Very Happy

It started to snow again today!! So i've not got round to fitting the actuator.

Task 1 - MOT

GOOD NEWS! The car passed it's MOT with one advisory in the end. It was originally 2 advisories but it was over-cautiousness on the tester's part. First of all there was a tiny hole in my exhaust - now welded back up. The supposed second one was the power steering - the tester thought there was a leak but it's residue from a repair i had done to the power steering system a few months ago - that's all been sorted! Smile

Task 2 - Actuator

I then come home and since it was dryer, i decided to fit that actuator! Nobody told me how if you have a hand that's larger than 5cm by 5cm you'd find this wee job fiddly!

Comparison of new and old - note the one that's stuck and not springing back. Hence complete failure of being able to lock a door!

It's nice to know my car now locks properly - so i can leave it parked up now without being broken into easily lol.


Task 3 - Number plate screws

The second little task of the day was to fit some number plate screws as the existing ones were easily 17 years old! I had to rip the old plastic covers off then get a pair of pliers to twist the screws out L-) This job took far longer than the actuator job did but it was worth it I think! It's the little things that freshen things up.

Future Task 4 - Fogs


Got a hold of a brand new and slightly used set of fogs. The cleaner one is for a 405 mi-16 and the other for a 309. But they're interchangeable Smile I am of course using the 309 one but took them both because it's a brand new Sien/Sein/genuine pug one and will go nicely in my spares box.

 


I'll hopefully be able to fit the one needing replaced tomorrow!

Chuffed with progress as per usual...

Lastly, nothing too excited but i managed to sort out the n/s fog light

 


Future plans from here is to get chrome vinyl for the moulding inserts and mainly to get the bodywork sorted out and looking mint as follows:

- Old n/s/r door removed, all ancillaries transferred over to new door including glass.
- Fill in/pop out small dents, treat a tiny spot of surface rust, then paint new door and fit.
- Get rid of old repair job marks (filler that's not been sanded down well and you can see sandpaper marks in the paint!) and repaint, this is on n/s/r arch and quarter, and on the front door as well which will need painting anyway because...
-There is lacquer peel on all doors where the moulding has been rubbing against the paint. This means the front arches (which have deep scratches in them anyway!) need flicking over and blended in as do the rear quarters, and on one side it'll go up to the roof line because of a 10p spot of lacquer peel.
- There's a significant ding in the o/s/r arch which needs a bit of persuasion then repainted of course - in it's present state the paint is chipped to bits.
- There is also a rust patch above my driver's door lock.
- The spoiler is scratched to bits so that's getting removed painted and re-fitted as well.

The boot lid itself is fine and the bonnet was painted 2 or 3 years ago to get rid of stone chips. There is one there of which i'll attend to myself The roof has 2 scratches on it which aren't too noticeable and should machine polish out, i just need to figure out how to use mine first on a scrap panel.

Chrome Mouldings

I've got some red side moulding trim being delivered soon to me so i can cover them in chrome vinyl. I'll keep the originals a-side somewhere, they're not too bad but one side on the passenger door has snapped off! So i need them all to match. Trying to find front and rear mouldings now as you can only get chrome ones from pug now and they're around £80 for the set and they won't match any vinyl added to the ones at the side...

After much waiting for the post office to deliver me some side strips - they finally arrived last friday.

So...i've had a wee play with them to see how the chrome vinyl would look on it, or if i should in fact get them sprayed chrome or do more research into what i need to do next with these.

So i started by removing them from the gray moulding, taking some old red vinyl off and giving them a good wash.

 


 


I did the smallest one first to see how it looks because the quality of the stuff on the sheet looks terrible as it had a million air bubbles go underneath when unrolled but chopping off a little bit, flattening it then wrapping it seemed to do the trick.

I've done one of the longer ones but it's got a few creases in it so i'm going to start again since there's loads there and it was only £7.50-ish for a meter by 600mm

Chuffed so far, hope the rest turn out good too....even though i've just realised that normal gti trim has a totally different profile than the goodwood ones which are just flat but i will carry on anyway! Rolling On The Floor Laughing Sad

After realising they're the wrong shape and actually preffering the flatter goodwood style anyway...i've just bought some from this guy on ebay and the passenger door trim is lovely and un-snapped, unlike mine! Very Happy
