Right well I've forever been plagued with a squealing/screeching sound from brakes when NOT braking and just driving around.
I've taken it to a garage a few times now and asked them to check it out and they bled the brakes and freed them up and what ever they like to say these days, but to no avail.
So Basically I got fed up and thought fudge it, it can't be that hard, I'm not stupid.
So I had it up on stands and got the pads off and I noticed the passenger side, inside pad is unevenly worn (top and bottom have sort of groves)
So I have a feel of the disk and it's all buggered up on the inside and outside edge of the disk, as in the smooth braking surface has disintegrated and left it all rough.
So what I'm asking is do you think this is the source of the problem? Bear in mind the noise is when I'm NOT on the brakes just driving, and doesn't actually begin until say a minute into driving. I saw a post not long back saying something along the lines of brake dust clogging them up, but they seemed to move freely enough and I've given them a good clean with brake cleaner before to no avail too.
Oh and before you say, I'm going to get some new discs and pads, see if that helps, so on another note;
would these pads & discs be okay? I know they're a cheap set, but I can't REALLY afford an expensive set (yes I know blah blah I shouldn't have a car if I can't afford repairs yada yada that's not my question). They're only for everyday use and I don't exactly rag my little 1.1 like some bad boy boy racer.

I apologise for the EXTREMELY long post
Cheers for any input you can give on the matter (and for reading that essay)

I have the same problem under 15 mph. I just ignore it. If it's serious, it'll come up on the next MOT, until then...

Mines not bound to any speed I can be doing 70mph and it'll be squealing just like at 10mph.
Also I've had my car MOT'd between the squealing starting and nothing came up.... which sort of worries me considering the state of the back of one of my discs!

I hear a lot of people have sucky 1.1 brakes. Probably best off changing all the pads and stuff. I would do it to mine, but i'm both financially and lazily challenged lol.

Haha this is more or less my position now Whose stupid idea was it to go to University anyway!
Ah well screw it, I'll get those pads & discs, give it a bash and see how it turns out.... If you hear I've crashed into a brick wall it's because I clearly wasn't cut out to be a mechanic
