my dealer installed my crystals into the repacement car.
he said it didnt need the gti stalk as i did in the previous 206.
however, ive just nipped to shops and noticed both main and dip dont stay on together when swiching to main beam.

is this typical of not having the gti switch connected, as i still have it so ill just change it over tomorrow ?

It needs a relay in the back of the headlight for them both to stay on.
It's nothing to do with the stalk Smile

Indeed, although changing the stalk to a car that had crystals as standard will also achieve this Wink

If your car has h4 and h7 wiring then you can just plug crystals in and change the stalk instead of buying relays

yes the newer car had got H4 and H7 connectors, but the dealer just changed them over for me whilst they had it checked on the ramp before mot.

just wanted to confirm this behavior was down to the stalk before i replace it with my gti one Very Happy

How does changing the stalk affect anything?

too techie for me to explain but lee would tell you Very Happy

in a nutshell though , in a pre-plex 206 , if you want to change from frosted to crystals, providing you have the H7 connectors as well as the H4, its simply a matter of installing the crystals and changing the stalk for one from a pre plex gti that originally had crystals as standard.

What dj said, I don't know why they appear the same on the outside but if your car has h4 plugs being used and h7 pinned down in the engine bay somewhere out the way, using the plugs and swapping the stalk will allow both to be on at the same time. I'm unsure how the stalk allows it.

Surely it's easier to fit a relay than it is to change the stalk though?!
Considering you have to remove the steering wheel and air bag to change the stalk

took me 10 mins tops.

unsrew two torx screws on bottom cowling , top and bottom cowling lifts off.
unscrew two torx screws holding stalk, unclip the wiring conectors and refit.

... and i took my time, reckon it wouldve took lee abot 3 mins Laughing

Georgieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, the metal pins inside the stalk is different Smile

After about half an hour studying the wiring diagrams, I worked out it was different Razz

Wiring in a relay is simple enough like you said, but some people just don't like touching the electrics.

On mux 206s you can just change the COM config to activate double reflector style lamps so you don't need a relay for them either Smile

Plug the grey H7 connectors in if you have them OR cut the original H4 plug off & solder / heatshrink new H7 connectors in there place.
