My lovely little 116d eco...

Purchased about two weeks ago now.. lovely little number and goes like a dream Wink

When I've had it a few years and its well ran in.. with the warranty gone then it might see some little bits and bobs done to it;)

As for now its staying completely standard.. and ill keep my little project going on the 206

Little better than the 206, little worse than the db9.. Lol joke, don't own a db9!

I've tried offering it in way of exchange for the old man's db7 vantage.. no luck as of yet! Rolling On The Floor Laughing

The new 1 series is much better than the old car.
I just found the stop start annoying and even when disabled it would switch itself back on when the car was restarted. I dont know why they bother to make a 2 litre diesel engine with such little power and how do you shut the tailgate gently without holding the wiper arm?
Other than the annoying indicators with a mind of their own it was quite nice to drive especially round corners. Sport Plus mode was amusing in 1st gear.

To reply, The stop start is annoying as hell, its a 1.6 litre engine and its a twin turbo with a lot of power? its very fast for what it is, you can shut the tailgate gently by holding the latch that is provided.. you push the button at the top and it turns to unlock and you can put your hand in there (its a handle) to close it gently, the indicators have two settings, fully pressed or half pressed, half puts it on for 3 clicks and fully forever until the steering wheel cancels or driver does, sports mode its brilliant on the car, although I don't rev the balls off it, its a lovely drive and I'm very pleased with it all round.. cannot fault it.. Like I say, rather that than the 10 year old 206 any day of the week

Doesn't your VW have 'lane changing' indicators too?

It's a 2 litre diesel engine with a single turbo.
A Ford Focus 1.6 TD has some shove and has some entertainment value but how BMW have managed to make such an engine I do not know. It's very linear its power delivery like a petrol engine but it simply lacks any strong part of the rev range.

Yes but when they are permanently on the stalk is locked down as is normal. On these BMWs the stalk pops back up when they are permanently on. So to cancel them you knock the stalk upwards and you end up indicating the opposite direction for a few flashes. I think they've just tried to do something different but have changed something that worked perfectly and created another unnecessary problem.

The BMW 116d EfficientDynamics is powered by a four-cylinder 1.6-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engine

Stop acting like a know it all and calm down... I own the bloody car, I should know that its a 1.6 twin turbo.

Ok, some current model 116d use the 2 litre. Smooth but no power.

I love the comments about the 2ltr low power engine when a lot of members on here rate the 90bhp 2ltr pug lump. Just for my 2p's worth it made sense for BMW to build one engine and offer various power options, great business sense. The new 1.6 ed engine seems great in theory but I don't think I'd want the liability of it out of warranty, reliability ain't great with the 1's but that ain't an issue with a brand new car.
This 206 IS going on a trackday despite it's every effort to stay at home in the garage!

Why do they make a 2 litre 116D and a 1.6 116D? All in the current range too. It’s not even as if the 1.6 is replacing the 2 litre.
Are they actually twin turbo? It seems only the 125D is a twin turbo the others being twin scroll.

Also the 116i, which is a 1.6 turbo petrol engine – is it related to the 207 GTi engine?
