just a quick update - i have taken 5 bolts out the thermostat housing unit and this thing really does not want to play ball and come out.. should it really be this hard to remove ?

just grabbing a picture...

The two threaded rods that normally have nuts on them also need removing. Just get two nuts together or some mole grips on the ends to unscrew them.

Just give it a quick tug sideways (also hold the metal pipe under the manifold) to pull the pipe out of the water pump. You won't get the pipe out of the thermostat housing because it's held in with two seals so is rather stiff.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

well found the culprit of the coolant loss..

 


now need to find somewhere open to get the pipe and seals.. thanks for your help guys.. nearly there.

Is it worth going to a scrappy? New pipe is about £30 I think. Seals cost peanuts.

no ill get a new pipe but everywhere is closed around here. should be able to pickup either tuesday or wednesday..
