Hi
My 1.9d 206 just started chugging and loosing power recently. It seems to happen out of nowhere when the engine is both warm and cold and then it would drive as normal and then start chigging again. I replaced the fuel and air filter and it didnt help.
There is no air getting into the system as the fuel lines have no bubbles and when idling the rev counter sits still as it should.
What is the next most likely cause?

(intransitive) To make dull explosive sounds.

We were chugging along a back road when the engine cut out.

LOL i mean its loosing the revs as if it is running out of fuel and it is going to stall. Would it be worth running some redex through it ?
There is no fuel leaking from the pump.
PS. There is plenty of diesel in the tank!
