Its a bit of an odd one this. We can start the car and within a couple of seconds the temp warning will come up on the display the temp gauge rises then lowers. We can drive all day no problem. Sometimes, like today I can be driving. The warning appears then as before within seconds can return to normal.
I'm not unfamiliar with mechanics and im fairly confident the car isn't over heating but an electrical fault.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and could shed some light .

Thanks in advance

Clint

Quite a common fault from what i've heard on here, it's more than likely the temperature sensor, the one that looks like a green plug, plugged in to the right of the head as you are looking into the engine bay

Done mine the other day as i was having the same problem, pain to get to but not a hard job to do, if you need instructions on how to get it out i can post them up for you

Does this sensor control the coolant level warning aswell as I have the same thing but this happens with the 'top up coolant' warning light.

Cheers

Holy thread revival Wink lol

I am having problems with my 02 2.0hdi.
I reckon either one of the temp sensors is dud, a bad connection or the thermostat is dead lol.

I can be driving along and the temp shoots into the red and beeps saying coolant temp high and then can drop to about 75 or drop back to 0. So I think the one for the gauge is dead but which is it?

I have found this plug. When I unplug it the temp just reads in the red

Its the blue plug in the middle of the pic. What is this one and could it be this? Or is it more likely to be the thermostat?
Or I am wrong all together?

On a side note.
Occasionally I get an airbag and passenger airbag fault. Had a look under my seat and found this plug not plugged into anything?

I tried to plug into the empty space on the left but it doesn't fit in any orientation?

Thanks for any help guys

That white plugs is for the seatbelt not fastened warning lamp on the dash.
You need the seatbelt buckle with sensor & a BSI configuration set up tweak if you want it to work.

To get both airbag warnings come on id check the battery & charging system.
