Ok first of all ..not too hot on how an engine works or how to fix things myself..wish i had time to learn although my car may force me know it inside out anyway
2 litre gti petrol 2001.Fully serviced in November 2010 since then..Suspension change, track rod ends, wheel bearings, back wiper, new tyre.Anyway my exhaust started to sound ace which unfortunately meant i needed a new one.
Went to my local garage who ordered and fitted an after market cat and exhaust (everything beside the back box) boom £550 ..
Sounded funny even leaving the garage!..turned out to be faulty so went back and they fitted everything again(all new parts under warranty)...FAULTY yet again but this time with the engine management light either on or flashing on and off.
So went back yet again and they said their computer couldn't actually find a fault so they just reset the system and ordered a slightly better exhaust from the same company as my car WAS'not ACCEPTING the parts they had put on..? my car has feelings?
Anyway went back yesterday with the flashing engine light and faulty muffler and they spent 6 hours changing the exhaust and resetting the system yet again.but they said the car sounded rough when they put the new exhaust on and the car was miss firing.so they changed a few cylinders and injectors around and it "should work fine"..
Using it today and all gears seem to be juddery and definite lack of power..also when i apply pressure to the gas there's a buzzing almost electrical high pitch noise from the engine(only when in gear??).there was a big judder and the engine light started flashing with lack of power again but just stayed in fourth after that and went 30,was close to my house thank god
HUGE story im sorry but there it is.Please can someone tell me what the hell is going on
Thanks

Right, the engine managment light staying on should of logged a fault code so it should of been read on a code reader. The light flashing usually indicates a misfire which can cause damage to the CAT if left for too long. One thing that needs to be checked is if the system is indeed the correct one for your car as i have seen many variations of exhausts for peugeots some of which are a really bad fit. They need to check if its leaking anywhere first and make sure the CAT hasn't melted and blocked the pipe, i have seen a renault where the CAT was glowing red after a few minutes of idling, which was caused by a failed coilpack IE misfire.
hope this helps, but its really quite hard to diagnose over the net when i can't see the car

£850? I've sold two second hand units for £100 each and if you fit yourself or get a friend to do it then it's a winner
