Ok well I'm just about to install my new gti steering wheel on my w reg 206, just one quick question after following all the guides, does the airbag cover (plastic bit with the lion on over the horn in te middle of the wheel), does this bit pop off before you attack the torx at the back or is it part of the airbag unit itself?
Cheers, think I can do it just don't wanna pull the plastic cover off and find out it was actually part of the airbag lol.

Just be careful you don't take it off and snap the wiring

Yeah I've just unscrewed the back, this thing looks like a bomb, if I pull the wrong cable the bugger is gonna explode in my face, it was hard enoughto unscrew looking out the passenger window so my face didn't disappear lol.
Right, back to the guide...

Have you disconnected the battery?
Note that you can also just remove the spade connectors going to the steel part.

I wouldn't really improvise tbh, I'd go and get a new T50 torx key, as the bolt is always on pretty tight.
